Korean Girl Groups’ success in Japan: thanks to DBSK
It’s evident that k-pop is slowly crossing over to new areas of the world, and apparently DBSK is to thank for the success the our girl groups who are currently promoting in Japan are receiving.
Officials from Japan’s official music chart, Oricon, said that due to DBSK’s suspended Japanese activities, fans had to look else where to get their DBSK fix, and apparently fans have been taking interest in groups such as SNSD, 4minute, Brown Eyed Girls and KARA as they debut in Japan.
An official said:
TVXQ [DBSK] must be credited for K-pop and its girl groups’ successful launch in Japan. It seems that the fans have been feeling a sense of loss since TVXQ suspended all activities, so the fans in their teens and twenties are focusing their attention on Korean girl groups.
The Oricon official then said:
Otherwise, it would have been impossible for these girl groups to have suddenly sold 30,000 copies of their album or have 20,000 people come to their events.
Recently, KARA became the first Korean girl group to break into the top 5 in the Oricon chart and most recently, SNSD had a fan meeting for 22,000 Japanese fans.
