60 Idols, 12 Groups, One Stage at the K-Pop Music Festival in Sydney

More than 20,000 K-Pop fans attended the K-Pop Music Festival in Sydney at the ANZ Stadium with many flying interstate and internationally. The line-up which included some of the biggest names in the K-Pop industry such as Girls Generation, TVXQ, SHINee, miss A, SISTAR, BEAST, 4minute, KARA, CNBLUE, 2AM and MBLAQ, all left their fans with a memorising night to remember. To commemorate the significant 50-year old tie between Korea and Australia, JK Entertainment (Australia) joined forces with MBC in Korea to bring 12 of the most popular K-Pop groups down under for what has been pronounced by fans as a ‘historical’ moment.

Hosted by Tiffany and Yuri, Tiffany from Girls Generaiton told hellokpop and other medias at a press conference that it was a ‘pleasure to be invited’ and ‘meet to our [Girls Generation] fans for the first time’ in Australia.
Lines for the concert started as early as the morning for the 7PM concert but thousands of fans attended the outdoor event, which included a show by SBS PopAsia, Hyundai and many more give-aways from several major event sponsors. Hyundai Australia gave fans the chance to leave a message for their idols on a message board as well as giving them an opportunity to take a photo with cut-out-cardboards of the 60 idols that came down.
It was evident that many fan groups gathered together, with many fan communities giving away banners and stickers to their fellow fans. One group flew from Hong Kong came to support TVXQ, specifically the anniversary relationship between their idols Jaejong and Yunho. The girls stood for hours holding a gigantic banner plastered with hundreds of messages from fans abroad that couldn’t make it to the event.
It was as if MBC had brought Music Core to the ANZ Stadium with neon lights, fires and extravagant fireworks packing the stage performances. Each group had a set of 15 minutes to perform their string of hits not excluding special stages. Jokwon and Changmin from 2AM joined the stage with SISTAR’s Hyorin and 4minute’s Gayoon to pay tribute to R&B singer Beyonce with their own rendition ofHalo. Meanwhile, 4minute and miss A shared the stage for a special performance of Australia’s very own Pop Queen, Kylie Minogue’sCan’t Get You Out Of My Head.
MBC will replace one Music Core with a special airing of the K-Pop Music Festival in the coming weeks.
JK Entertainment hinted to hellokpop that it is very likely a second K-Pop Music Festival can be expected soon, so let’s all keep an eye out!
