Relive 2NE1 performance on MTV Iggy
Besides their highly successful string of hits since their debut, 2NE1 had another reason to celebrate; being named as MTV Iggy’s ‘Best New Band in The World’.
It’s not every day that you get recognised by MTV as the world’s most promising band but 2NE1 can tick that off their long list of achievements after taking the lead in votes ahead of other promising groups such as Venezuelan dance-punk band La Vida Bohème; Jamaican dancehall star Gyptian, who worked with Nicki Minaj on the track “Hold Yuh”; and Malaysian singer/songwriter Yuna.
However, that was last month’s news. 2NE1 recently headlined MTV Iggy’s Best New Band concert series on December 12 which went onto being broadcasted live online and was translated to over 53 different languages. In a bid to open musical boundaries in America, MTV World senior vice president and general manager, Nusrat Durrani told MTV News,“MTV Iggy’s Best New Band concert symbolizes America opening its doors to pop music from around the world. It’s a sign of the times. We live in a global, connected world in which music has no borders. We are going to see that come alive tonight.”
More than 2,000 fans were present at New York’s Time Square as 2NE1 performed a set of four songs; Fire, Can’t Nobody, Lonely and arguably their signature hit song, I Am The Best.
