Every year, Korean fans await the results of Korea Gallup‘s survey to find out who are the most popular music artists and which songs are the most popular of the year. This year, 3,401 Koreans, aged between 13 and 59, took part in the survey to give the following outcomes:

Proving the idols’ supremacy in Korea, the 9 favorite songs of 2011 are idol songs. Idols are also dominating the favorite artists list with 6 idol artists in the top 10, and SNSD ranking 1st for the 3rd consecutive year. From this poll the new hierarchy amongst K-Pop artists can be established.

SNSD is the number one idol artist. Big Bang maintains its statue by ranking 2nd, despite this year’s numerous controversies for the group. They are the number one male idol artist. IU ranked #5 and becomes Korean idol’s most popular solo artist. 2PM ranked #6 along with veteran singer, Im Jae Bum. 2PM is now the 2nd most popular male idol group in Korea. T-ara rose to become the 2nd biggest girl group in the country by ranking #8 along with Lena Park. T-ara is the “youngest” artist to be featured on this ranking (2 Years and 5 Months old). The Wonder Girls are back in Top 10 after being omitted the previous year.

IU, T-ara, SNSD, Big Bang, Kim Bum Soo and the Wonder Girls are the only artists to be featured both on the artist and the song Top 10. Amongst this year top album sellers, JYJ, Super Junior, 2NE1, Kara, F(x), Beast and DBSK did not make the Top 10. This means that a great deal of the success they are enjoying in their own country is due to their respective international fanbase.

SNSD, T-ara and theWonder Girls are the current Big 3 for girl groups in South Korea.
