T-ara And Davichi Storm The Charts!
IU has broken another record this week. The nation little sister‘s latest hit, You & I, has spent 27 days at the top of Melon charts so far. IU breaks Leessang‘s 25 days run with Turned the TV off to establish the record of the year. Her run is still ongoing and she could break her own personal record, established in 2010 when Good Day sat at the top of Melon for 28 straight days. This new accomplishment has been achieved despite the explosive collaboration of Davichi and T-ara for the Christmas song, We Were In Love. As you can see below with the Instiz Weekly iChart, You & I ranks 1st for the 4th consecutive week, while We Were In Love ranks 3rd, despite having only 3 days to chart on the Real-Time, and 2 on the Daily.
The Wonder Girls‘ Be My Baby still features on the Top 10 and so does T-ara’s Cry Cry. Cry Cry is set to break the 7th week download record after establishing the 5th and 6th week records of the year. It even managed to top the Monkey3 Ream-Time chart 40 days after its release (see below). Monkey3 being one of the smallest charts in South Korea, this is more of bonus feature than a real achievement, but still worthy to be acknowledged.
However, the main attraction of the week was the release of We Were in Love which came out a day early, on the 23rd of December, due to the song being leaked the previous day. For the last 3 weeks, major artists, such as SNSD, SHINee, MBLAQ, Infinite and more, have been constantly releasing Christmas songs, but none managed to achieve the success Davichi and T-ara are currently enjoying with We Were In Love. The song instantly scored unofficial all-kills upon its release and seized the top of every Real-Time charts (including Melon for a few hours). Its success is that imposing that it made Core Contents Media rethink and postpone the release of T-ara’s Lovey Dovey to the 2nd of January 2011.
Presented as T-ara “hit song” for the past few months, Lovey Dovey was originally set to be released on the 28th of October. Then its release was postponed to the 11th of November, but Cry Cry tremendous success pushed it back first to the 18th of November, then to the 24th of December. This time, it was We Were In Love that pushed back its release, but the CCM’s CEO, Kim Kwang Soo, promised it will be the final date. As you can see below, the song is currently topping every charts but Melon.
Since its release, fans witnessing its success have been wondering if the song will be performed on music shows. It was recently reported that CCM is actually considering the matter:
“T-ara is in the midst of heavy preparations for their year-end ceremonies, in addition to their choreography practice for ‘Lovey Dovey‘. But when we consider the success of ‘We Were In Love’ as well as the support fans have been showing the song, we feel like it’s only right to repay them by performing the song on music programs.”
The upcoming release of Lovey Dovey could mark a new peak for T-ara. The group has recently been established as the 2nd national girl group of 2011, behind SNSD, by Korea Gallup‘s survey, and T-ara could have 3 songs from 3 different releases charting high at the same time. That we will see soon enough, but both Davichi and T-ara are sure enjoying some of the highlights of their respective careers.
