It is cold in Korea now and you think there is nothing to do if you travel now?

Are you traveling to Gangwon in South Korea this winter? It might be cold at this region of the Korean peninsula but you don’t have to stay indoors. Gangwon winter activities do exist in abundance. Don’t forget to pre-book your WIFI egg before your Korea trip too!

Skiing In the Mountains

Do you know that Korea is 70 percent of mountains? There are more than 40 mountains just in Gangwon alone. This is also the perfect reason that you can take advantage of the natural landscape to go skiing in winter. In fact, there are many ski resorts in South Korea.

The best time to visit is usually between November and March. If you are just starting out on skiing, expect to take up snowboarding lessons first. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a number of winter sports according to your interest, subjected to availability of each ski resort.

Have you ever gone fishing? Whether “yes” or “no”, ice fishing is a must. Gangwon Province hosts the annual Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival. Here, you have the opportunity to try out ice fishing. If you are scared to slip over the ice into the freezing water, no fear. The local authorities have done all necessary measures for absolute assurance that the ice is tested for safety to prevent from cracking or melting. And rest assured there are plenty of fishes to catch in this one of the best Gangwon winter festivals!

Snow Sledding

How about going snow sledding in the mountains? One of the Gangwon winter activities is going out to the Taebaeksan Mountain Snow Festival. Although the festival provides an array of activities, sledding should be a top priority, especially with the beautiful snow-covered Taebaeksan Mountain as the backdrop. In 2018, the coming festival will open on January 19 and last until February 11.

Winter Street Foods

Nom nom nom … Of course, you have eaten plenty Korean street foods before. In Gangwon, there are a number of winter snacks which appear during winter season. Think chestnuts and sweet potatoes. The smell of roasting sweet potatoes and chestnuts provides a welcoming aroma to warm you in the cold weather. If anything is of concern to you, chestnuts and sweet potatoes are healthy snacks.

Who said you should spend the Christmas holidays doing nothing? There will be a number of Christmas, winter and year-end K-pop concerts that can keep the winter hotter. If you are a young couple or a group of friends looking to have K-pop fun and entertainment over the festivities, this is one of the best winter activities to do and enjoy together. Coffee Drinking

To keep away the cold without venturing outdoors, what else can you do? Well, coffee! Like other Asian countries, the coffee culture is big in Korea. You can try out a variety of freshly brewed coffee while enjoying the panoramic view of the ocean in Gangwon.

In Gangneung, one of the three cities that will be hosting PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games, there is a perfect place for coffee drinking called Gangneung Coffee Street, which is located along Anmok Beach.

This street is perfect for all coffee lovers, with rows of cafes neatly lined up to make sure you are spoilt for choice and to keep you warm in winter. Many of these cozy and unique shops also sell decaffeinated coffee, juices and teas as well.
