America To Remake K-Drama ‘Good Doctor’ — “In Hollywood, it’s considered the same as winning the lottery”

Critics would want to know that it’s as lucky as lottery.

On Saturday, KBS America released news that the well-received 2013 Korean drama ‘Good Doctor’ will be remade in the United States.

The medical drama will be remade by American broadcaster ABC for a pilot run first, with scriptwriter David Shore, who is known for the hit series ‘House’. It will be produced by Sony Pictures Television.

According to the original Korean plot, it tells a story about pediatric surgeons in a hospital where love blossoms between an autistic savant Park Shi-on (Joo Won) and his co-worker Cha Yoon-seo (Moon Chae Won).

For the upcoming U.S. remake, it will use a similar plot, which is to feature a young surgeon in the pediatric department of a top local hospital.

President of KBS America Yu Konshik optimistically believed that the the pilot run will be well-accepted by the U.S. audiences before it can air officially in the coming September.

“Only eight out of 200 dramas are made into pilot programs in Hollywood,” he reasoned. “In Hollywood, it’s considered the same as winning the lottery.”

In related news, the U.S. has been remaking Korean dramas, such as ‘Reply’ series, ‘My Love From The Star‘, and ‘God’s Gift: 14 days‘.
