The Smiths are at home with YG

The Smiths are at home with YG

On May 6, YG Entertainment welcomed Hollywood celebrities Will Smith and Jaden Smith at their headquarters. They just came from Taipei, Taiwan where they held their promotions for their movie After Earth.

The news of the Smiths’ arrival in Korea is not new but updates from fans spread like wildfire all over Twitter and photo-sharing sites about their visit to the YG building, which was later confirmed through photos by CL of 2NE1 and one of YG producers who goes by the name Choice.

The Smiths are scheduled to meet with Jay Park on the red carpet event for the movie who sang a self-written song for After Earth’s official soundtrack as requested personally by Will Smith.

They are also to appear in a collaboration project of General Idea, owned by Korean Bumsuk Choi and MSFTSrep (Misfits Republic) established by Jaden Smith in 2010. The event details can be found in the Seoulcialite website.

Chart trends: 63-year-old veteran singer Cho Young Pil bounces on top of PSY’s ‘Gentleman’

Chart trends: 63-year-old veteran singer Cho Young Pil bounces on top of PSY’s ‘Gentleman’

Veteran singer Cho Young Pil came out of nowhere to take over the charts with his digital single Bounce, which unsettled PSY‘s Gentleman which was at the top of the charts. Though Cho Young Pil is famous in the Korean music industry, he was hardly presented as a contender to PSY’s newest phenomenon. However straight upon release, Bounce topped every real-time charts and have been maintaining those rankings for the past two days, which subsequently prevents PSY from topping the charts for a full consecutive week.

Cho Young Pil’s Bounce:

After registering one of the most explosive debut in the charts to date, PSY’s Gentleman went on to be certified all-kill, then Perfect All-Kill on Monday morning but only for a few hours. Its failure to resist much toward the release of Bounce will perhaps now raise a few concerns in the YG camp. Could it be that Gentleman has already worn itself out with its dynamite debut, or simply that it has moved on its cruising mode by relinquishing the lead but staying firm around the top spots?

What are your thoughts about it? Did you expect Gentleman do be so easily out-shadowed by Cho Young Pil’s Bounce?

Stay tuned to hellokpop for the updates!

Lee Hi’s return with album “First Love”

Lee Hi’s return with album “First Love”

On 7 March, Lee Hi returned with part one of her debut album “First Love”, with part two set for release on 21 March. Through the ten songs, she will be able to showcase her vocal talents with wide range of R&B, blues, soul and jazz.

YG Entertainment President, Yang Hyun-Suk, and the executive producer of the album tap on Lee Hi’s unique vocals and characteristics to stand her out from other K-pop counterparts.

The making of “First Love” was really a YG family affair, with Epik High’s Tablo as the songwriter for three tracks, YG songwriter and producers Choice 37 (BigBang’s Bad Boy, G-Dragon’s One of a Kind) and Lydia Paek (2NE1’s Lonely and I Love You) adding their musical flavors to the mix.

The first released track is the jazzy and bouncy song, It’s Over, with the music video highlighting Lee Hi’s youthful and playful side.

The second single titled Rose is produced by Teddy Park, the mastermind behind most of YG’s biggest hits, and is set for release on 21 March along with the part two of the album.

Last October, Lee Hi made her official debut as YG’s first female teenage solo artist with her hit song 1, 2, 3, 4. The retro-soul inspired song debuted at number one on Billboard’s K-pop Chart and also on all of South Korea’s music charts.

It was an unprecedented feat for a rookie artist who eventually claimed Rookie awards for the year.
