PSY’s “Gangnam Style” Music Video Sets New Record In K-Pop

The iconic “Gangnam Style” music video became the first K-pop song to surpass 5 billion views on YouTube.

According to his agency P-Nation, the music video for “GANGNAM STYLE” posted on PSY’s official YouTube set a record of reaching 5.025 billion views as of 1 PM on December 30.

“Gangnam Style” is the title song of PSY’s sixth regular album Psy 6 Part 1, released in July 2012, and is a hit song that gave PSY the historic record of becoming the first K-pop singer to be ranked 2nd on the Billboard main chart HOT 100 for 7 weeks.

The music video became the first YouTube content to exceed 1 billion views and 2 billion views, thereby changing the way YouTube views are counted. In addition, it has been showing a steady increase in the number of views for 11 years, leaving an unusual record.

In addition to “Gangnam Style”, PSY also recorded “Gentleman” with 1.5 billion views, “Oppa, Just My Style” with 820 million views, “HANGOVER” with 360 million views, “DADDY” with 700 million views, “New Face” with 290 million views, and “I LUV IT” with 130 million views. These tracks are also showing overwhelming power on YouTube.

Psy said through his agency, “The day I first achieved 10 million views, I celebrated with my colleagues and dreamed of reaching 50 million views. I am 100 times happier than my dream.“

Meanwhile, PSY successfully concluded All Night Stand 2023 from the 22nd to the 24th, and plans to bring joy to fans around the world through various activities in 2024.
