Though the year may have begun on a grim note, the K-pop industry intends to conclude the year memorably with 2020’s largest digital event yet through Mnet’s annual MAMA ceremony. While fans can look forward to a celebration of their favorite K-pop artists, the occasion also promises a stacked lineup of K-pop’s most prominent stars. From the icons of the third-generation, the emerging leaders of the fourth-generation, bright rookies, and stunning soloists, fans can anticipate breathtaking stages from all.

THIRD-GENERATION

Increasing expectations for the 2020 MAMA are the many legendary third-generation artists planning to take on the stage. K-pop’s third-generation has arguably propelled the Hallyu wave to incredible heights, shaping the present K-pop global scene. Additionally, their increasingly complex choreographies, worldviews, and concepts continue to impress fans and aspiring creatives across the world.

Performing artists include BTS, GOT7, MAMAMOO, MONSTA X, NCT, TWICE, SEVENTEEN, and OH MY GIRL.

Familiar to the MAMA stage already, fans can expect even more intense stages from the seasoned groups.

FOURTH-GENERATION

Meanwhile, many beloved fourth-generation groups will also participate as performing artists for the 2020 MAMA. Those at the helm of the fourth-generation continue spreading the Hallyu wave, globalizing the genre by connecting with fans internationally. Following the path set by industry seniors, newer groups continue evolving K-pop as a multi-media experience by integrating various components such as narrative storylines, immersive dance, and elevated styling concepts.

Fourth-generation artists who will perform include ATEEZ, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, IZ*ONE, Stray Kids, THE BOYZ, and (G)I-DLE.

ROOKIES

Amongst the third and fourth-generation stars, this year’s most impressive rookies will also take on the 2020 MAMA stage. The recently debuted groups will perform during one of K-pop’s largest events, raising expectations for how they will show more of their sound and musical identities during their performance. Furthermore, by scoring a vital performing spot during the show, these rookie groups prove their rising global and domestic demand.

Rookie groups set to perform include ENHYPEN, TREASURE, CRAVITY, and JO1.

SOLOISTS

While the 2020 MAMA lines up many sensational groups, the ceremony also teases stunning stages by some of the industry’s iconic soloists.

This includes SM Entertainment’s TAEMIN and BoA.

TAEMIN recently thrilled fans with the release of Never Gonna Dance Again: Act 2. Furthermore, BoA just delivered her anticipated comeback with her 10th album, Better. Fans of both artists can expect stages showcasing their elevated artistry and legendary performing skills.

Special Collaboration

It would not be a complete MAMA event without an unforgettable collaboration stage. This year, femme fatale artists Jessi and Hwasa will collaborate in a fiery performance. Jessi had major success with the track “NUNU NANA”, released in July, which became an instant anthem of the summer. Meanwhile, Hwasa continues to find immense support for her work with girl group MAMAMOO, as well as for her independent projects such as her song “Maria”.

This will be the first collaboration between the pair on the 2020 MAMA stage. As such, fans can expect a charismatic performance from the two artists.
