[EXCLUSIVE] EvoL: It still feels like a dream now that we are singers

Stylish, talented and addictive personalities – what other secret ingredient do these feisty girls from EvoL from Stardom Entertainment need?

Say, Hayana, Yull, J-Da and Jucy aren’t your typical K-Pop idols that sit back and wait for the work to be done, these girls are hands on artists! All five members were active in the process composing their debut mini-album, Make It Explode to choreographing their own dance moves.

Get to know who the girls admire, what their future plans and goals are and what they have to bring into the K-Pop industry.

1. What is it like to work with such an incredible producer such as Cho PD?

 [SAY] Its quite amazing working with a honored cho PD in the hip pop industry. He will give us good words (tips) as a musician but in life as a senior. We are always thankful as he will constantly lead us to learn music in right(correct) ways.

 [HAYANA] We are so honored to work with someone we have being respecting in the music industry.

 [YULL] I am really honored. I still can’t feel the reality just like when we debuted!

 [J-DA] Really honored, I still feel nervous (flatter) when I look up to him when standing in front of him. I always respect him.

 [JUCY] I am really honored as a person who liked hip pop since young; he gives me the tension as there are so many things to learn from him. He also has great sense of humor and time to time makes us cheerful.

2. How does it feel to finally debut?

 [SAY] I still can’t believe it. We are so used to the word ‘trainee’ for 7-8years that the word ‘debut’ doesn’t feel real. When the album came out and when I gave the album to my parents, tears fell out. I will always run forward (future) never losing this feeling in my heart.

 [HAYANA] I cannot feel the reality as I have been dreaming it for ages. I am so happy and flattered (nervous) that I can’t feel the reality!

 [YULL] I can’t reel the reality. Everybody asks me how does it feel, but I feel so dazed.

 [J-DA] It still feels like a dream that I am a singer. But if someone do recognize me and greets me, ah~ that’s when I feel that I have actually debuted.

 [JUCY] I still can’t believe it that I’ve been calm, but I cried after the live performance at M-countdown~T-T I still can’t feel the reality.

3. Tell us a little about each member.

 [SAY] Hello~ I’m Evol leader ‘SAY’! ^-^* in Evol I’m in charge in choreography, vocal and composition. Nice to meet you~ J

 [HAYANA] HI I’m HAYANA and my role in Evol is vocal and global idol~ especially Hello to Australian fans~ I’ve lived in Australia for 8 years ^^ Please take of me!

 [YULL] I YULL from Evol and I’m in charge of emotional (soulful) vocal. I am also in charge of being the Mum in Evol >_<

 [J-DA] Hello! I am cutie maknae(youngest) J-DA and is in charge of the rap! The onni (s) always tells me that twisted (unexpected) maknae because of my voice and the way I act but I want to be the cutie makenae with lots of aegyo!

 [JUCY] Hello! I’m the cutest in Evol, powerful rapper, JUCY! I’m also in charge as the main rapper, lyricist and composer. Please do look out for Evol.

4. With such anticipation for EvoL’s debut, were there any pressures debuting? How did you manage this pressure?

 [SAY] Since this is the work that I want to do and what I love, there was no special pressure. But when there was hardship in training and when I fell into slumps, I always got help and advice from my family and from the members. As it has been, I want to always follow what my heart says by enjoying it and I want to do my best in music.

 [HAYANA] Even though there was anticipation as there was so much work to do in so little time, but I controlled myself to bring out my concentration.

 [YULL] There wasn’t any BIG pressure. We were much worried about how fans and the public will like us and enjoy with us, but all of us did our best for it. Also, since I was the last member to join, I felt a big burden. But the members here have helped me a lot and for that there was no problem.

 [J-DA] Compared to the onni(s) my training period was short. So there was a bit of pressure but the onni(s) helped me a lot and gave me lots of strength.

 [JUCY] Sometimes it was hard when we will listen to music for the whole day. But in those days we will all watch a movie together. We like watching movies as much as we like listening to music! ^^

5. With that being said, how does EvoL aim to differentiate from other girl groups? 

 [YULL] Neutral charm, powerful image etc… but the fact we actually get involved in making our songs!

 [J-DA] Powerful? We want to have the difference(gap) in every point of view!

 [JUCY] we actively get involved in our own song lyrics, composing and the choreography. I focus on the rap lyrics when our leader SAY does the choreography which always amazes all of our members. Rather walking on a fixed planned road, each of us has individual color, so please look out for us believing us as Evol is different. ^_^*

6. Which artists do the members of EvoL admire most? Why?

  [SAY] I personally honor Beyonce and Michael Jackson. One of the reasons I am able to here is the influence from them. I also admire on how they act humble when they are the “best” but I also respect their love for music.

[HAYANA] I personally really admire Rihanna and Elle Varner!!

 [YULL] I honor Mariah Carey and Beyonce. Their powerful singing and voice performance is just unbelievable!

 [J-DA] Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj!!!Their music style and their energy in the performance on stage have given me a great influence. Also, they looked amazing when they sing different genre of music but singing in their own style.

 [JUCY] I really like the Korean under hip pop music. I like Gigs, Swings, okayasian, Dok2 and will listen to their music regularly. With foreign music, like J-DA I like Nicki Minaj. I really love her individuality and personality~ > <*

7. What can fans expect from EvoL in the future, in the next 12 months?

 [SAY] Our color will be more unique; wouldn’t we have become a step closer to the music we wanted? If you love Evol and are looking forward, please look forward to us and our music in the future. Thank you!

 [HAYANA] We will be more developed then now in one year time and “Tada~!” wouldn’t we will appear with our new album? ^^

 [YULL] With our different genre songs, wouldn’t we be communicating with all the fans? We want to enjoy our music together with our fans!

 [J-DA] We will be more matured after 1year, will never lose our concentration and with our fan’s cheer, wouldn’t we be a step closer to our goal?

 [JUCY] I believe we will make good music to let many people to hear! Also, I would like to have a concert and fan meeting if there are chances. Please give lots of love to Evol. Fighting! J

1. 조피디와 같이 뛰어난 프로듀서와 함께 일하는 건 어떤가요?

[SAY] 항상 존경해오던 힙합 뮤지션 조피디 사장님과 같이 일하고 있다는 게 신기할 따름이에요. 음악성 이외에 인생의 선배로서도 좋은 말씀 많이 해주시고, 저희를 항상 바르게 음악 할 수 있도록 이끌어주셔서 언제나 감사 드리고 있어요.

[HAYANA] 저희한테는 항상 존경해왔고 음악적으로 영향을 받았던 분이랑 함께 일 한다는 게 정말 영광스럽고 든든하죠.

[YULL] 정말 영광입니다. 데뷔만큼이나 실감이 나지 않습니다!

[J-DA] 굉장히 영광스럽고, 아직도 앞에만 서면 설레고 우러러보고 있습니다. 항상 존경합니다.

[JUCY] 정말 어렸을 때부터 힙합을 좋아했던 사람으로써 영광이고, 항상 본받을 점이 많으신 분이셔서 긴장감 있게 하게 되요. 센스도 만점이셔서 그때 그때 마다 즐겁게 해주세요.

2. 드디어 데뷔 했는데 기분이 어때요?

[SAY] 아직도 믿기지 않아요. 7~8년간 연습이라는 단어가 몸에 베어 ‘데뷔’라는 현실이 실감이 안나요. 앨범이 나오고 부모님께 앨범을 직접 전해 드렸는 데 눈물이 나더라구요. 항상 이 마음 잃지 않고 달려나갈 생각입니다.

[HAYANA] 너무 오래 전부터 꿈꿨던 일이라 아직까지 실감이 안 나는 것 같아요. 실감이 안 날 정도로 기쁘고 설레요~!

[YULL] 아직 실감이 나지 않습니다. 주위 분들이 기분이 어떠냐고 물어보시는데 마냥 얼떨떨합니다.

[J-DA] 아직도 제가 가수가 되었다는게 꿈만 같습니다. 하지만 요즘엔 저를 알아봐주시는 분들이 인사해주시면 아…진짜 데뷔를 했구나 하고 몸소 느끼고 있습니다.

[JUCY] 너무 믿기지 않아 오히려 담담했는데, 어제 엠카운트다운 생방송 무대를 끝내고 울어버렸어요~ㅠㅠ;; 아직도 실감은 나지 않네요.

3. 멤버 개인 소개 부탁드립니다!

[SAY] 안녕하세요, 이블의 리더 ‘세이’입니다! ^_^* 저는 이블에서 안무, 보컬, 작곡을 맡고 있어요. 반가워요~ J

[J-DA] 안녕하세요! 저는 이블에서 랩을 맡고 있는 귀염둥이(?) 막내 J-DA입니다! 목소리와 행동에 있어서 언니들이 반전 막내라고 하지만 전 애교 많은 막내로 남고 싶어요!

[JUCY] 안녕하세요! 저는 이블에서 제일 귀여운 파워 랩퍼 JUCY입니다!! 팀에서 메인 랩과 작사, 작곡을 맡고 있습니다. 앞으로 EvoL 많이 기대해주세요!

4. 이블 데뷔를 준비하면서 받은 압박감이 있었나요? 있었다면 어떻게 컨트롤했나요?

SAY: 전 제가 하고 싶은 일을 하고, 제가 사랑하는 일을 하고 있기에 특별한 압박감은 없었던 것 같아요. 하지만 연습이 잘 안되거나 슬럼프가 왔을 때는 가족과 멤버들에게 조언을 많이 구했죠. 이제껏 그래왔듯이 제 마 음이 말하고 싶은 대로 즐겁게 그리고 열심히 음악하고 싶어요.

[HAYANA] 짧은 시간 안에 많은 일들을 소화해야 하는 압박감이 생기기도 했 지만 최대한의 집중력을 발휘해 내 자신을 컨트롤 한 것 같습니다.

[YULL] 크게 압박감은 없었습니다. 팬 분들이, 대중들이 좋아해주시고 같이 즐겨주셔야 할 텐데 라는 생각을 많이 했지만 멤버들 모두 그만큼 열심히 했습니다. 그리고 마지막 멤버라 부담감이 컸습니다. 하지만 옆에서 도와주는 멤버들 덕분에 문제 없었습니다.

[J-DA] 다른 멤버 언니들보다 준비기간이 짧았습니다. 그래서 약간의 압박감이 있었지만 오히려 언니들이 옆에서 도와주었고, 많은 힘이 되어 주었습니다.

[JUCY] 가끔은 음악만 하루종일 듣는 게 힘들 때가 있어요. 그럴 때마다 멤버들과 함께 영화를 봤거든요. 저희는 음악 듣는 것 만큼 영화 보는 것을 좋아해요! ^^

5. “우린 좀 달라”에서 나왔듯이 다른 걸 그룹과 어떤 면에서 다르다고 생각하나요?

 [YULL] 중성적인 매력, 강한 이미지 등…있지만 직접 곡에 참여했다는 점!

[J-DA] 파워풀? 모든 면에 있어서 항상 차이를 두고 싶어요!

[JUCY] 우리는 직접 작사, 작곡, 안무에 참여하여 적극적으로 우리 음악을 만들어요. 나는 랩 작사에 치중을 두고, 리더 SAY는 안무를 정말 잘 만들어 항상 멤버들을 놀라게 해요. 짜여진 대로, 정해진 대로 하는 게 아닌, 개개인의 색깔을 음악에 담기에, EvoL은 좀 다르다고 믿고 지켜봐 주셨으면 합니다.^_^*

6. 어떤 걸 그룹을 이블이 가장 존경하나요? 왜인가요?

[SAY] 전 개인적으로 Beyonce와 Michael Jackson을 존경해요. 제가 지금 이자 리에 올 수 있게 영향과 자극을 영향과 자극을 주신 분들이기도 하고, 항 상 그분들의 ‘최고의 자리에 있지만 항상 겸손하고, 자신의 일을 사랑하 는 모습’이 너무 존경스러워요.

[HAYANA] 저는 개인적으로 Rihanna와 Elle varner를 굉장히 존경합니다!

[YULL] 저는 Mariah carey와 Beyonce를 존경해요. 그녀들의 폭발적인 가창력과 목소리, 퍼포먼스는 믿을 수 없어요!

[J-DA] Chris Brown, Niki Minaj!!! 그들의 음악스타일이나 무대 위에서 보여지는 에너지가 저에게 큰 영향을 주었어요. 또한 여러 장르의 음악을 자기만의 스타일로 소화시키는 모습이 멋있어요.

[JUCY] 저는 한국 언더 힙합을 참 좋아해요. 그 중에서도 Gigs, Swings, okayasian, Dok2 등을 좋아하고, 틈틈이 그들의 음악을 들어요. 외국 가수는 J-DA처럼 Niki Minaj를 좋아해요. 그녀의 당당함과 개성을 사랑합답니다~> <*

7. 팬들이 1년 뒤에 기대할 수 있는 이블의 미래는 무엇일까요?

[SAY] 더욱 더 이블의 색깔이 다양해질 것이고, 저희가 정말 바래왔던 음악에 한 발짝 좀 더 다가가있지 않을까요? 이블이라는 팀을 사랑하고 기대 하고 계신다면, 앞으로의 저희 모습과 음악도 기대해주세요. 감사합니다!

[HAYANA] 1년 뒤에는 지금보다도 훨씬 발전되어 있는 모습으로 저희만의 새 앨범으로 짠! 하고 나타나겠죠?^^
