30 K-Pop Concerts & Fan Meetings That Mark The Best Korean Wave Moments In 2018
2018 proved to be another year for Korean entertainment to shower its global fans with amazing memories.
A lot of Korean entertainment events scored both domestic and international successes in 2018. From new albums, hit singles, successful debuts, set records, sold-out shows, international tours, and jam-packed music festivals — Korean wave artists have done them all this year!
As the year comes to an end, we looked back at all the huge events which showed Korean entertainment’s incredible feats and achievements.
Check out this list of 30 defining moments which showcased the power of Korean wave – in the form of concerts, fan meetings, and music festivals – as we wrap them up for you in the list below:
1. HallyuPopFest 2018
K-Pop fans saw not one, not two, but more than twenty artists and idol groups all in one showcase through this year’s HallyuPopFest in Singapore! The three-day back-to-back shows ran from September 7 to 9 at Singapore Indoor Stadium, all hosted by Eric Nam.
The star-studded lineup included solo artists such as Heize, Taeyeon, Soyou, Huh Gak, Yoo Seungwoo, and Jeong Sewoon. Some of the hottest K-Pop groups in the music scene also went to show what they’ve got like Wanna One, BTOB, NCT 127, Dreamcatcher, UNB, MYTEEN, AOA, EXID, Snuper, ONF, gugudan, Victon, MOMOLAND and Apink!
2. EXO PLANET #4 – The ElyXiOn
Another year, another successful tour for EXO! The boys brought paradise – which connects to the tour’s title “elyxion”. Gifting fans a paradise where only chosen ones can go, they toured nine countries in Asia from November 24, 2017 to August 11, 2018, counting a total of 25 shows.
EXO kicked off the tour with a three-day spectacle in Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome, becoming the first artist to hold a show there for three consecutive days and recording the highest attendance since it was opened with over 66,000 fans. The group’s stop in Bangkok also sold out all three shows with 33,000 tickets in less than five minutes – they’ve got that power, indeed!
3. 2018 WILD KARD TOUR
B.M, J.Seph, Somin, and Jiwo headed to several countries in Europe, Latin America, and Asia for their Wild Kard Tour this 2018. The group greeted their fans with various hip and amazing stages and performances through the tour. KARD’s Asian tour kicked off at Singapore on January 21, 2018 and headed to Taipei, Hong Kong, and Manila afterward.
4. MONSTA X – The Connect Tour
MONSTA X went global this year with their MONSTA X – The Connect Tour by meeting with their lovely Monbebes all around Europe, Asia, and North and South America. The tour kicked off in Seoul with back-to-back shows from May 26 to 27, shooting everyone out with rocking live stages.
5. Super Junior – Super Show 7
The Super Junior members put on their black suits and headed to twelve countries in a mission to steal hearts once again with their Super Junior – Super Show 7 tour. The tour series served as the fourth world concert tour and seventh international tour by the group, with a span of thirteen shows in Asia and four in Latin America. Super Junior – Super Show 7 was special for ELFs as it served as members Siwon, Eunhyuk, and Donghae’s return to the concert stage after getting discharged from their respective mandatory military services.
6. TWICELAND ZONE 2: Fantasy Park
TWICE shook our hearts with their tour TWICELAND ZONE 2: Fantasy Park, which counted ten shows and around 90,000 fans in total combined attendance. The tour series kicked off at Seoul’s Jamsil Indoor Stadium on May 18, followed by shows in Japan, Singapore, Thailand, and ended at Indonesia on August 25, 2018.
7. Season of GFRIEND
GFRIEND made us sing and dance along to “Me Gustas Tu” with all our hearts during their first Asia tour titled Season of GFRIEND. The girl group visited Taiwan, Philippines, and Hong Kong in addition to their shows in South Korea with the tour which ran from January 6 to September 9, 2018.
8. BTS Love Yourself World Tour
BTS trapped us in a love maze and made us proud of all their huge achievements this 2018! All mics had been dropped as they really went all the way this year – from topping charts, breaking album records, speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, and selling out stadiums with their Love Yourself world tour.
The group’s third headliner worldwide tour count 41 shows alone – nineteen in Asia, fifteen in North America, and seven in Europe – not to mention that more stops for the tour would soon be announced.
9. Day6 Youth World Tour
Day6 shot their My Days with so much love during their Day6 Youth World Tour, which traveled around Asia, Australia, North and South America, Canada, and Europe. The international tour counted 26 shows in total, visiting countries like Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Brazil, Spain, France, and more.
10. Wanna One: ONE THE WORLD
All we wanna do is look back at how Wanna One made 2018 way too beautiful, especially through their Wanna One: ONE THE WORLD tour! The group headlined their first worldwide concert tour from June 1 to September 1, 2018, holding a total of twenty shows.
The tour kicked off in Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome and ran for three days, followed by the US, Asia, and Australia legs and wrapping up at Manila’s Mall of Asia Arena.
11. 2018 SEVENTEEN Ideal Cut Tour
SEVENTEEN made this year “aju nice” indeed as they met their loving Carats through the 2018 SEVENTEEN Ideal Cut Tour! The thirteen-member group visited eight countries in Asia, namely Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Taiwan – plus South Korea, of course!
12. Winner Everywhere Tour
We really, really screamed our hearts out every time Winner took the stage in their Everywhere Tour! The group went to Asia and North America to perform and give their fans a night to remember, taking over the arenas in cities like Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Singapore, Manila, Jakarta, Hong Kong, and more.
13. iKON Continue Tour
iKON showed us how they’re new kids we’d have to watch out for on concert stages in the future with the success of their Continue Tour! The group went to ten cities – eight in Asia including Singapore, Manila, and Bangkok and two in Australia – for their Continue Tour, which is the group’s second Asia tour after their 2016 iKoncert 2016: Showtime Tour.
14. GOT7 2018 World Tour Eyes On You
GOT7 sweet talked us into hearing their endearing lullabies live during the GOT7 2018 World Tour Eyes On You! The world tour held legs in Asia, Europe, and North and South America, visiting Ahgases in Thailand, Macau, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore, Germany, France, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, and more.
15. Lee Jong Suk Fan Meeting: Crank Up Tour
Lee Jong Suk visited his fans from all over Asia in his 2019 Crank Up fan meeting tour! The heartthrob made everyone fall in love with him as he stood on the stages of Seoul, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Manila, and more with the tour, which was also called the “Pit-a-pat”.
16. Red Velvet REDMARE Concert
The group’s second solo concert tour kicked off on August 4, 2018 at Seoul’s SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium, followed by a set of shows in Bangkok, Taipei, and Singapore. The ongoing concert series will have the girls visiting several cities in Japan, Canada, and the United States until February next year.
17. ‘s… Taeyeon Concert
We don’t think we’re fine after hearing Taeyeon’s breathy vocals live during her ‘s… Taeyeon concert in Manila – and we think fellow fans over at Seoul, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Singapore feel the same way! The SNSD member took over the solo stage once again in the tour which started on October 20, 2018 and is still ongoing until January 12 next year.
18. IU 10th Anniversary Tour – Dlwlrma
IU celebrated her tenth anniversary in the industry by embarking on a solo concert tour titled IU 10th Anniversary Tour – Dlwlrma! The well-loved singer-actress spent her career’s special milestone with fans in South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, and Taipei from October 28 to December 25, plus next year’s last stop of the tour in Jeju Island on January 5.
19. Jung Joon Young Fiancee Fan Meeting
Jung Joon Young spent one special night with his fans in Manila with his first fan meeting ever in the country titled Fiancee Fan Meeting! His loyal Jungbrahimovics welcomed the Korean TV personality and musician warmly on September 22 at the ABS-CBN Vertis Tent in Manila where he talked about his career, the characteristics of his ideal girl, his experience during the time he lived in the Philippines, and his desire to come back to the country soon – this time, with his band!
20. Jung Hae In SMILE Fan Meeting
The world definitely saw for itself why so many people have been falling in love with Jung Hae In this year with his fan meeting. Titled 2018 JUNG HAE IN ‘SMILE’ FAN MEETING, the actor visited Taipei, Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Manila to charm everyone with his killer smile.
21. THE ROSE – 2018 Paint It Rose Tour
South Korean boy band The Rose visited countries in Europe this 2018 with their THE ROSE 2018 Paint It Rose Tour, which ended with a bang at the earlier half of the year! Following the tour’s success in cities like Brussels, Moscow, Istanbul, London, and Budapest, the group added shows in eleven cities around the United States, Mexico, and Brazil after in order to meet more of their fans and make them swoon with tunes like “She’s In The Rain” and more.
22. Yoona Fanmeeting Tour, So Wonderful Day #Story_1
SONEs had a truly wonderful day meeting beautiful singer-actress Yoona on her fan meeting tour. So Wonderful Day #Story_1 kicked off in Seoul in May 2018 and has since taken place successfully in Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.
23. Kim Hyun Joong “HAZE” World Tour
Over 40,000 fans of his domestic and global fans attended Kim Hyun Joong’s 2018 World Tour ‘HAZE’ which kicked off on December 2, 2017 at Korea University Hwajeong Gymnasium.
The singer-actor toured eight cities and seven countries for six months including Bolivia, Chile, Mexico, South America, Japan, Thailand and Macau. It featured his extended play HAZE and included 21 performances showcasing acoustic and dance production numbers which captivated the audience.
24. SF9 Be My Fantasy
Seeing SF9 live turned from a dream to reality for SF9 fans who got to see them during their SF9 Be My Fantasy tour! Inseong, Youngbin, Jaeyoon, Dawon, Zuho, Rowoon, Taeyang, Hwiyoung, and Chani proved they could give that “sensational feeling” as they continued with their SF9 Be My Fantasy tour in Manila on January 6, 2018 following their first set of shows on the tour’s US and Asian legs the previous year.
25. SHINEE WORLD THE BEST 2018 – FROM NOW ON
SM Entertainment revealed the huge response that its boy group received from the audience as over 180,000 people flocked to the venues to witness the idols perform live. The K-pop idols visited Osaka’s Kyocera dome for two nights on Feb 17-18 and Tokyo dome on Feb 26-27.
The event marked the first time SHINee performed as four members after Jonghyun’s unfortunate passing.
26. Zico – King of the Zungle World Tour
Talented rapper Zico had all the stops of his world tour ablaze with his fiery performances. Kicking off in Seoul in August, Zico toured cities including Japan, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Moscow.
27. Shinhwa’s 20th Anniversary “Heart” Tour
Legendary group Shinhwa marked two decades in the K-Pop industry this year. With that, they gifted their loyal fans with heart-stopping and age-defying stages in their 20th Anniversary “Heart” Tour which began in October 2018, and stopped by in Taipei and Hong Kong.
28. 2018 Apink Asia Tour
Celebrating their seventh year as a group, Apink showered Asian PANDAs with joy and music in their stop overs in Seoul, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia. They made the summer of 2018 bright and charming with dazzling performances.
29. KCON USA
The seventh edition of KCON USA kicked off on June 23 and 24 in Newark, New Jersery, treating K-Pop fans in the United States with various activities and experiences in one weekend. KCON 2018 NY, the first leg of the largest Korean culture convention in the world saw the attendance of about 53,000 fans in the two-day event, which featured star-studded concerts and informative convention programs at the Prudential Center.
Additional stops of KCON were also held in Japan and Bangkok.
30. 2018 MAMA
This year’s Mnet Asian Music Awards took over with grand and astonishing stages from 2018’s top artists! One of South Korea’s biggest and most anticipated award ceremonies was made even more special by its celebration of its ten-year anniversary, and with a milestone as splendid as such, Mnet went all out just like the artists who went up their stage to take the audience’s breaths away. Held on December 10 in Seoul, December 12 in Japan, and December 14 in Hong Kong, this year’s MAMA saw performances from prestigious artists such as BTS, GOT7, Wanna One, TWICE, Monsta X, and more.
With the success of these events which made the K-Pop scene shine even brighter this year, we are definitely looking forward to what more our favourite K-Pop artists have in store for us this 2019!
