Cha Eun Woo Fulfills Promise of A Fun Night And Dotes on Fans in Manila Fan Meet

By  |

AROHAs came in droves to the Araneta Coliseum to see their idol once again after more than two years.

Cha Eun Woo last met with Filipino Arohas in October of 2019, and it was such a blast. The charming idol-actor promised then, he would return as soon as possible but the pandemic hit. Everything came to a halt and fans could do nothing but patiently wait for things to settle. So, it is not surprising that his latest fan meeting, Cha Eun Woo Just One Ten Minute: Starry Caravan in Manila received so much love and enthusiasm.

Smart Araneta Coliseum was filled with fans from all walks of life and demographic. The audience, comprised mostly of locals and some who took quite a journey, were all there to spend a night of fun and music with their beloved artist.

Eun Woo gave pensive answers when asked with a mix of toned-down mischievousness that only added to his charms. He was interactive, as always, with fans and reciprocated the love PH Arohas are more than eager to give. As a result, the fan meeting was another unforgettable memory for both Cha Eun Woo and the audience. Another one that they will share and cherish for a long time.

Pre-Fan Meeting Event

Lucky fans (winners from a special draw), media people and representatives from partners Smart, Viu PH and MakeItLive, attended the press conference. It was held on the same day and hosted by the lovely and ever eloquent Sam Oh.

Before Cha Eun Woo graced the ecstatic audience with his ethereal presence, Sam Oh asked a series of trivia questions about the ASTRO member. Questions like the idol-actor’s real name, date of birth and what he did during his brief stay in the Philippines. She also talked to some of the audience members which revealed how far some have traveled to see Cha Eun Woo.

One fan flew from the United States. She revealed that she took five days of unpaid leaves from work so she could attend the event. Sam Oh inquired about the reason she gave her boss so she could take the time off. The answer she gave delighted fans as she told them she will be attending a “conference”. Another fan flew from Guam and some from different provinces of the Philippines.

When Cha Eun Woo finally arrived, the audience greeted him with affectionate screams. He waved to the fans and enthusiastically posed for pictures. The charming idol-actor expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and said he was always excited to see and meet fans. Despite the technical difficulty (one of the mics malfunctioned), Sam Oh relayed the questions from the media which Cha Eun Woo keenly answered.

When asked if there was an obvious change(s) that happened to him since the last time he visited Manila, he said that there was no grand change but admitted he learned a lot after he debuted. Fans quipped that for them the most noticeable change was that he has gotten even more handsome.

Cha Eun Woo also stated that, while he likes to learn new things, he would rather put more focus on improving or honing the skills he already has. He then addressed the fans and said he wanted them to have a great night and hoped they enjoy the event later. He once again thanked the crowd and told them “I love you” in the vernacular.

Cha Eun Woo made sure to see more fans this time as the fan meeting’s venue was larger than the last one. The location brimming with excitement and energy from people lining up to enter their respective sections up to their seats inside the Araneta Coliseum. While waiting, fans spent their time taking pictures to immortalize the experience. They also made sure to scream every time a clip of Cha Eun Woo flashed on the screens.

When the lights dimmed, the crowd roared. Then Cha Eun Woo officially kicked off the event with his song “First Love”. After serenading the crowd, Cha Eun Woo made his formal introductions and Sam Oh joined him once again on stage. Eun Woo revealed that he wanted to show fans a love that is pure and fresh, so he picked the song for his opening number. He said that it has been a long time since he last saw fans live and that he is so grateful for the warm welcome.

Fact check Self-Reported

This segment was about getting to know Cha Eun Woo through a series of scenarios presented. Fans would get to see whether the action/reaction matches his true character. Sam Oh further explained that he can refute any false information or expound on his answers. But before getting to the first item Sam Oh asked Eun Woo what most people say about him apart from the word handsome.

Cha Eun Woo looked to the crowd and threw out a few adjectives. He eventually settled on the words nice guy which the crowd approved of. The host also agreed and said that “handsome and nice guy” is such a deadly combo. Eun Woo also said that he is the type of person to directly correct misinformation about him if he hears it from someone he is closed with. But he is also the kind to just let it go if the person is someone he barely knows.

Cha Eun Woo

Eun Woo confirmed or related to all the scenarios as he only raised the “O” board. He also provided explanations on each, making it easy for the fans to understand his choice. Like the situation about his logic in buying gifts or stuff.

Cha Eun Woo confirmed that he leans more on practicality and usability. He also said that he would not wait in line regardless of how delicious the food is in certain restaurants. He’ll just go someplace else rather than queue up.

Eun Woo further endeared himself to the audience when he said that he would exchange pleasantries or talk to someone vaguely familiar if they greet him first even though he would spend the entire time thinking about where or when he saw/met them previously.

5-minutes Straight

For this corner, Cha Eun Woo treated fans to heart-fluttering moments as he introduced the characters he played. He also reenacted the memorable scenes from his dramas. The charming idol elicited loud cheers from fans the moment he recited his confession lines in My ID is Gangnam Beauty.

He fondly recalled a situation from the drama Top Management. He said that in one of the shoots, it was so cold, but he has to pretend it was not. Eun Woo was so glad that the outcome made him look like he was not affected by the cold at all.

Fans screamed once more when he introduced his character in Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung. Cha Eun Woo said his lines in the scene where he comforted Shin Se Kyung’s character. It was the last drama, True Beauty that sent fans into a frenzy, clearly loving his character Lee Su Ho. He gamely did the drunk scene much to the crowd’s delight as well as the Ottoke Song scene. He repeated the song together with the fans and told fans about his upcoming drama Island.

Making Self-portrait

In the final corner, Eun Woo must pick one picture from a set of six photos and make a self-portrait. He eventually chose the first picture and proceeded to make his “sculpture”. While in the process of making his self-portrait, he continued to interact with the fans. The crowd chanted “Lee Dong Min” and Sam Oh asked how it feels hearing his real name. Cha Eun Woo said that it makes him feel friendlier and a lot closer to fans.

Cha Eun Woo also inquired about fans’ opinion on the hair style he should do next. Most answered he should try to have a long one. He pondered and said he has not tried growing his hair long and he is now considering it. Despite encountering difficulties from the colored clays (the material was almost dried up), Cha Eun Woo made a cute imitation of his chosen photo.

He also sang his cover of “Aloha” (OST from Hospital Playlist) as he gave out roses to the audience members. Cha Eun Woo capped off the fan meeting with “Love So Fine”, an official soundtrack from his drama True Beauty.

Ending Ment and Fan Project

Cha Eun Woo did not let an opportunity pass by without acknowledging the warm reception he has been given. He said that even though it has been a long time since he last staged his fan meeting in the Philippines, the love and support never wavered. Eun Woo thanked the fans for the loud cheers and praised their energy all through the event. He once again made a promise to return and requested for a group photo.

As Cha Eun Woo got ready for a photo with the crowd, a surprise VCR from fans played on stage. Cha Eun Woo sat on stage and watched along with the fans as a collage of memories flashed on the screen. Eun Woo reacted with amusement and surprise as he appreciated the fans’ efforts. He also read out loud the message on the special banner and reiterated his thanks.
