It’s a jampacked July as new Korean dramas mark respective premieres this summer!

Mystery and romance seem to be the dominating themes for July 2020 Korean dramas. Detectives and women finding reasons to love again decorate the featured narratives.

jTBC is also up to triple the successful streak on its Friday-Saturday spot after Itaewon Class and The World of the Married.

Seasoned and acclaimed actors Lee Joon Gi, Yoon Shi Yoon and Yoo Jun Sang gear up to challenge their elaborately sketched roles. While Song Jing Hyo and Hwang Jung Eum aim to show distinct portrayals in their roles which appear to be similar.

Now, here are the latest stories to anticipate in July 2020 Korean Dramas.

Into the Ring

Into the Ring is an office romantic comedy about a civil servant, Goo Se Ra portrayed by Nana. She is someone who intervenes, protests, resolves, and also falls in love at the district office.

Park Sung Hoon, who bears the essence of a charming man in this romantic comedy, also added expectations towards his role. He plays the part of Seo Gong Myung, a level 5 administrative official. He is a man, who in spite of being gifted with great intellectual qualities, has a nagging habit of criticizing others.

The Good Detective

The Good Detective is about two detectives with different personalities who work together to track the criminals and reveal their ugly truth.

Veteran actor Son Hyun Jo preps up to play the role of Kang Do Chang, a seasoned detective with 18 years of working experience with fellow Violent Crime team members. He is tough and loyal and was raised in Incheon. His investigation is based on experience and deductions, not scientific investigation and reasoning.

Jang Seung Jo takes on the role of a rich elite detective who has inherited an amount enormous wealth as an inheritance. He works on pursuing the realities of crime cases using his sharp insights without being shaken by money and power.

Additionally, the new series marks the third project of Son Hyun Joo and Director Jo Nam Guk. They worked together in lauded dramas – Empire of Gold and The Chaser.

Penning the script is Choi Jin Won of Masked Prosecutor and Big Man fame. Director Jo and writer Choi has also worked on drama Untouchable.

To All The Guys Who Loved Me

Men Are Men is a romantic comedy drama about a woman who has vowed to stay single forever. However, one day, she ends up receiving love proposals from two men of opposite charms.

Orchestrating the narrative of the drama is PD Choi Yoon Suk, who had previously directed Queen of Mystery 2 and Good Manager. While, the script is penned by writer Lee Eun Young. The drama stars Hwang Jung Eum, Yoon Hyun Min, and Seo Ji Hoon.


Was it Love?

Not one but four love interests is up for Song Ji Hyo in Was it Love?. The actress portrays the role of Noh Ae Jung, a single mother and a producer of a film company. Four men will suddenly appear in her life that give her affection, leading to dynamic changes in her 14-year passionless romantic life.

First in the list is Oh Dae Oh (Son Ho Jun). He is the bad yet attractive guy and the ex-boyfriend of Ae Jung. He is the foolish lover in the relationship, but rises as an excellent and top star writer.

Next is Ryu Jin (Song Jong Ho), a top actor who is cheerful and handsome. He is also involved in Ae Jung’s love history fourteen years ago.

Serving noona romance, Oh Yeon Woo (Koo Ja Sung) preps up to draw “a man’s first love” story with Ae Jung.

Lastly, Koo Pa Do (Kim Min Joon) is the CEO of Nine Capital, and a scary but sexy guy. He gets attracted to Ae Jung’s exquisite and alluring beauty. The two met as a film producer and an investor.

She Knows Everything

  • July 8 | MBC *special drama

Starring Kang Sung Yeon and Jo Han Sun, She Knows Everything takes the story of a cryptic event tracing the murder suspect that happened in a reconstructed apartment.

Exploring human evil tendencies, the series is directed by Lee Dong Hyun of Golden Garden and Less Than Evil fame. It is penned by rookie writer Seo Young Hee. The series will run four episodes only.

Graceful Friends | jTBC

  • July 10 | Yoo Jun Sang, Song Yoon Ah, Bae Soo Bin, Han Eun Jung, Kim Sung Oh, Kim Hye Eun

Stories of 20-year old friends and their wives would be tackled in jTBC’s Graceful Friends. Living a peaceful every day life, their routines change with the sudden death of a friend.

Raising anticipation, the series is directed by Director Song Hyun Wook. His notable works include The Beauty Inside and Another Miss Oh.


  • July 11 | OCN

Taking a parallel world mystery theme, Train threads in the story of a detective who intervenes in a serial killer’s work to protect precious people in the two divided worlds.

In both worlds, Yoon Shi Yoon portrays the role of a police officer. In World A, he is elite detective Seo Do Won, who ascended to the team leader at an early age by his prowess and skills in catching criminals. In contrast, his counterpart in World B is a corrupt police.

Meanwhile, Kyung Soo Jin is honest and dauntless in revealing her emotions. She plays the role of prosecutor Han Seo Kyung in World A; and a police officer who endured life with hatred in World B.


Chip In

  • July 15 | MBC

MBC’s new series is a black comedy mystery drama depicting the fierce outsmarting game among people in the backdrop of the billions of wealth of famous painters.

Kim Hye Jun (Kingdom 2) and Oh Na Ra (SKY Castle) star as mother-daughter pair who will explore the nature of human greed.

The script was written by Choi Kyung from MBC’s drama screenwriting contest. It is helmed by Director Jin Chang Kyu whose works include Bad Papa and The Rebel.


Flower of Evil

  • July 29 | tvN

Taking a thrilling plot, the drama revolves around the story of a psychopath who turned a new leaf leaving his old vile identity. However, his wife who is a police officer delves to unearth the truth about him.

Suiting up as metal craftsman Baek Hee Sung, Lee Joon Gi takes the role of a domesticated husband, devoted to his wife and daughter. Earning enough for his family, he is a picture of an ideal husband and father. Despite feeling content to what his life has turned out, his psychopath tendencies remain evident. He is apathetic and struggles to feel emotions.

Meanwhile, Moon Chae Won plays the role of Cha Ji Won, a homicide detective who is passionately curious to perform well in her job. That includes tracing her husband’s history when she felt something off about him. The sentimental pursuit between two people confronted of the truth they want to run away from spins the conflict of the story.

Orchestrating Flower of Evil is Director Kim Cheol Gyu. He has produced lauded series including Mother and On The Way To The Airport. Penning the script is Yoo Jung Hee who was praised for Naked Fireman.
