June 2020 Korean Dramas are ready to take off! It’s time for the bright and healing stories perfect for the summer weather.

Ushering the warm season are four series about love and family. This batch also marks the post-military drama launch of Kim Soo Hyun and the first Korean drama picked up by Lifetime channel. Notably, the roster is dominated by love stories in modern setting.

My Unfamiliar Family

My Unfamiliar Family acquaints viewers into a special story of a family that treat each other as strangers; and strangers treating each other as family. It also explores family misunderstandings and agreements. The drama dedicates rollercoaster emotions while presenting pragmatic stories of ordinary people that anyone can sympathize.

The series is directed by Kwon Young Il who co-directed popular works like Search: WWW and Suitswhile the screenplay is written by Kim Eun Jung who has penned dramas like Sweet Stranger And Me and Flower Boy Next Door.

It stars Han Ye Ri, Kim Ji Seok, Cho Ja Hyun, Jung Jin Young, Won Mi Kyung, Shin Jae Ha, Shin Dong Wook, and Kim Tae Hoon.

Backstreet Rookie

Romance and comedy in the backdrop of a convenience store is what SBS latest K-Drama treat revolves on. Starring Ji Chang Wook and Kim Yoo Jung, Backstreet Rookie has already established its position as one of eagerly-awaited series this Summer.

At the helm of the project is Director Lee Myung Woo of last year’s hit SBS series, The Fiery Priest. Notably, it is the first Korean drama to be produced by global network, Lifetime, and has tapped Director Lee to orchestrate the production.

Based on a popular webtoon, Ji Chang Wook suits up to the role of Choi Dae Hyun, a convenience store owner who used to work in a big company. His life will change when he meets part-timer Jung Saet Byul, portrayed by Kim Yoo Jung.

Top-billed by Hwang Jung Eum, Yoon Hyun Min and Seo Ji Hoon, the drama tells the story of a woman who vows to live alone after experiencing heartaches, only to receive love confessions from two men of opposing charms.

Hwang Jung Eum (She Was PrettyThe Undateables) returns to the small screen playing the role of Seo Hyun Joo. She works as a leader of a webtoon planning team and has expressed her willingness to stay unmarried.

Portraying one of the male lead role is Yoon Hyun Min (My Holo LoveTunnel) as Hwang Ji Woo. He is a CEO of a pharmaceutical company who has an acumen for business and possesses a cold personality

Meanwhile, Seo Ji Hoon (Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage AgencySolomon’s Perjury) will play Park Do Gyeom, a star webtoon writer. He has a lovely character but with “a unique 0% affinity index”. Interestingly, Yoon Hyun Min and Seo Ji Hoon both starred in the 2018 tvN drama Tale of Fairy.


It’s Okay To Not Be Okay

  • June 15 | tvN / Netflix

In this romantic drama, a health care worker and an author suffering from an antisocial personality disorder end up healing each other’s emotional and psychological wounds.

Portraying Moon Gang-tae is actor Kim Soo Hyun (My Love from the Star, Moon Embracing the Sun). His character is a caretaker working at a psychiatric ward who does not even bother to believe in love. Carrying all the weight and pain in life, he devotes himself only to looking after his disabled older brother.

Go Moon-young, played by Seo Ye Ji (Save Me, Lawless Lawyer), is a children’s book writer who is clueless about love. She is popular among all age groups, yet very antisocial and indifferent to others.
