MONSTA X’s Hyungwon Struts Out His Beautiful Visuals And Insights In GQ Korea’s November 2019 Issue

Excuse us, model Alexander Chae – aka MONSTA X’s Hyungwon – is coming through!

MONSTA X’s Hyungwon is really out here carrying the entire modelling industry on his back as he gives the camera his most striking poses in the November issue of GQ Korea!

The multi-talented MONSTA X member swept the modelling industry once more as he featured in GQ Korea’s photoshoot series with the Fabulous Four – aka male idols MONSTA X’s Hyungwon, PENTAGON’s Wooseok, SF9’s Hwiyoung, and The Boyz’s Younghoon who are all known for their pretty boy visuals as well.

For his turn, Hyungwon started by talking about how he manages to don his individualistic side as someone who belongs to a group – especially that with six other equally gorgeous men like him.

“We are a team with a strong, masculine image, but it stands out the most among the bulked-up members. That ‘beast-idol’ image is pretty big for us, but I think it’s because there’s someone like me, who is not as bulky, that we can give off a more diverse feeling,” he shared. “I don’t gain weight easily, so it’s really hard to bulk up. I thought that I should stay closer to something that’s uniquely me, so I wear things that suit a slender body type.”

Childhood Dreams and Life Goals

With the way he carries himself, one would say that Hyungwon was born to be in the entertainment industry – and that the idol life fits him so well. However, he reminded everyone that his childhood dreams were actually quite different from what we see him doing now.

“When I was little, I wanted to become a lawyer. I thought that it was really cool to represent someone else and make a case. When I was in middle school, I wanted to be an actor, but my parents were against it. They couldn’t win against my stubbornness though,” he shared.

However, his life goal has now changed into something more general – yet somehow more meaningful.

“Those people where you think, “The more I look at him, he’s really great” – I want to live like that, but I’m not sure if it’s working out well,” the multi-talented idol said.

Random Things About Hyungwon

Besides his dreams, Hyungwon also looked back on something particular in his childhood – his Jeolla accent. “I lived in Gwangju until I was 19 and I guess it’s very noticeable because I stayed with my grandmother when I was young. When I first came to Seoul, my accent was so strong that my [earlier] agency told me not to speak. It still shows a little too every now and then when I get annoyed,” he revealed.

Another random thing was him getting asked about his love for sleep. “I’m not proud of it, but I’ve slept seventeen hours,” he shared. Moreover, the MONSTA X member also laughingly named his eyebrows as his favourite part of his face.

Dynamics with MONSTA X

“Work is work, but everyone wants to live. Good things are good for each other, so I hope to be comfortable with other people. If there’s something I want to say to the members, I tell them right away,” he noted, adding in heartwarming praise to his groupmates which show their close bond. “Not all can understand me because they’re not in the same industry. The members are the ones I’m most comfortable with, and they are the most empathetic and open-minded people around me,” he said.

“With Shownu, I can often confide in my worries or true feelings. I think our personalities are similar. We’re both easygoing people, but we’re also not completely outgoing, so I can relate to him. When I talk about fun and exciting things, or about games, it’s with Minhyuk. Meanwhile, I share conversations about realistic things with Kihyun, and Wonho, Joohoney, and I.M hold music-related conversations with me. I guess I just talk a lot with everyone,” Hyungwon revealed as well.

With his closeness to his fellow MONSTA X members, the singer-dancer commented on whether he is among those who put the “people with a lot of affection and attachment towards others were usually lonely” stereotype to reality.

“I do get lonely easily. When I’m on stage, I don’t feel tired at all. I don’t have any thoughts of homesickness, and I’m full of happiness. However, when I get back to my hotel room and pull apart my chopsticks in the silence to eat lunch, it’s a vague feeling… so I just drink beer,” he shared with a laugh. “I drink a can or two and go to sleep,” Hyungwon added.

Solo Endeavours

“Actually, I have a lot of worries these days. I’ve achieved success with my team, but when it comes to what I’ve done, I don’t think I have anything yet. Most of my friends in my age group have just joined the company or are under-graduates, but I don’t feel much different about that,” he expressed his woes.

We’d like to beg to differ though – because Hyungwon had already made his name as a DJ in the past. Speaking of his alter ego H.ONE, the MONSTA X member talked about some of the things he wanted to do on his own – which involves continuing his DJ ventures.

“First of all, I’d like to work on EDM, which I can use for my team’s performances, and also travel alone,” he answered, following it up by picking Jeju Island as the destination he’d love to go to after having visited with MONSTA X just recently for the reality show I Log U in Jeju.

“I want to see the sea. A few days is too short. I’d like to go for at least a month,” the singer-dancer shared.
