Red Velvet Dives Into Deeper and Diverse Music In “Chill Kill”

Concept Queen Red Velvet releases their 3rd full-length album Chill Kill on November 13.

This album contains a total of 10 songs, including the title song “Chill Kill” of the same album name. It is expected to attract a lot of interest from fans around the world as it allows you to experience Red Velvet’s deeper and more diverse music world.

In a released media Q&A, the members relayed their thoughts about their latest project.

When asked about the studio album released after about six years, Red Velvet members take turns sharing their emotions.

IRENE: “When I heard that 6 years had passed since the release of the 2nd full-length album Perfect Velvet, I thought that time flies really quickly. It’s been about 6 years since we released a full-length album, but we’ve been working on albums consistently and trying out various concepts. That’s why we had a lot of meetings and worked hard to capture a new side of ourselves that we haven’t shown before in this regular album. I am proud to see the result. I hope many people will like it.”

Introducing the title song and the highlights of the album, Joy explained details about Chill Kill.

“The title song “Chill Kill” is a pop dance song that combines cool and cold feelings with a warm and hopeful melody. My world was turned upside down by the appearance of ‘Chill Kill’, which means ‘an event or entity that shatters silence’, but despite this, it is a song characterized by ambivalence, longing for hope and longing for ‘Chill Kill’, which allowed me to grow. And this duality is the point of appreciation for this new song.“

Tipping fans of the choreography highlight for “Chill Kill” performance, Seulgi spilled the beans.

“There is a choreography where you sweep your arms with your hands, and this choreography is the point choreography. I tried to express “Chill Kill” as something that breaks the silence. We put a lot of thought and practice into capturing the new song with Red Velvet’s unique feel, so I hope you’ll enjoy the performances we’ll be showing in the future.”

Voicing out other song recommendations aside from the title song, Yeri remarked the new album features beautiful songs.

“I really like all 9 songs other than the title song, so I would like to recommend all the songs on the album. This album contains songs with a variety of emotions, but if I had to pick one song among them, it would be “Underwater”, which all the members love. It’s a dreamy song that feels like being submerged in water, but it also feels cozy at the same time, so I think it would be good to listen to in the cold winter.”

Regarding the preparations for the album, Wendy expounded on the duality message of Chill Kill.

“As I mentioned earlier, since the keywords for this album are the duality of tragedy and hope, we paid the most attention to expressing this not only in the songs and choreography, but also in all content related to the album. During this process, I began to pay great attention to the acting that goes back and forth between emotions of tragedy and hope. In particular, please enjoy our acting in the trailer and music video.”

In addition, Wendy also assures new concepts and fresh music colors for this comeback. It is an album where you can feel the charm of a cool and calm feeling at the same time.

Various teaser images for this album drew attention. Yeri shares what is the most memorable reaction among them.

“When the first teaser image was released, there were many reactions such as ‘This is something only Red Velvet can do’ and ‘It looks really good.’ I remember the moment when all the members really enjoyed watching these reactions. I also saw a lot of guesses about the elements and stories in the content we presented, which was really fun.”

Conveying stories about the music video filming, Joy relayed how to view the message.

“I think it would be good to watch the music video by focusing on the process of the five sisters trapped in a tragedy, individually and together, overcoming the tragedy and growing up. What I remember is that we focused more on filming because there was a story, and even during the long filming time, the members had fun taking pictures and videos of each other.”

Seulgi lists down the promotional activities for the album by revealing plans to meet Reveluv through various activities, such as broadcasting, YouTube content, radio, and more. They will also hold several fan-signing events.

As this is a full-length album that has been released for a long time, the goal of this album is to look into Red Velvet’s past and present and show fans the distinct colors of Red Velvet that have grown further.
