For Singapore K-drama fans, Viu is your best companion to see through this extended CB season together!

From 7 April 2020, Singapore entered into an unprecedented period of “circuit breaker” mode since her independence when the invisible enemy COVID-19 threatened local public health with the mounting numbers of infected migrant workers in dormitories.

Like other countries, Singaporeans have to painfully adjust their lives as their movement is essentially restricted to stay at home. Fortunately for K-drama fans, Viu Singapore is available 24/7 to continuously feed all K-drama addictions without disruption!

According to the latest information shared by Viu Singapore to Hellokpop, romance, fantasy and mystery themed dramas, such as A World Of Married Couple, Dr Romantic 2, Eternal Love Of Dream, Meow The Secret Boy and Find Me In Your Memory, as well as variety shows like the ever-popular Running Man, are currently dominating statistical viewership across the local video streaming platform.

Such observations of these popular genres are generally consistent with the overall types of viewer trends Viu has seen since its inaugural launch in 2015, which was also the first OTT premium video service to be introduced in Singapore and Southeast Asia. The appeal of dramas lie in their ability to forge stronger emotional connections with viewers as they can develop the characters and storyline through the episodes. As such, viewers also become more emotionally invested as they relate to the characters in the drama.

In the past month after the CB period started, there has been a slight shift in viewer preferences, with more light-hearted romance titles such as When The Weather Is Fine and Meow, The Secret Boy steadily growing in viewership. Feel-good contents usually resonate well with audiences, and perhaps even more so during these difficult times.

Another title that has been gaining popularity recently is A World Of Married Couple since its release last month. The title has been setting new viewership records, scoring the highest ever premiere ratings on broadcaster JTBC, and currently holds the second highest ratings achieved by any Korean drama in cable network history.

A World Of Married Couple is seeing a similar response in Singapore, being the most-watched drama on Viu in April 2020. The drama’s popularity generally stems from the suspense-filled revenge plot, apart from its stellar cast performances.

There is also a noticeable rise in viewership for mystery themed dramas like Memorist, Nobody Knows and 365: Repeat The Year in the recent weeks. This increased appetite for such titles could have been partially influenced by the hype surrounding A World of Married Couple, which is also drawing viewers with its intriguing and suspenseful storyline.

Although dramas rank amongst Viu’s most-watched content, movie titles are also popular and have recorded an increase in viewership in at least the past few weeks. The top titles include Academy Award-winning Parasite and recent box office hit Crazy Romance.
