YG Entertainment Shifts Focus Solely to Music: Ends Actor Management

YG Entertainment has officially announced its decision to end its actor management business as part of a strategic reorganization to prioritize its core focus: music.

The announcement, made on the 17th, marks a pivotal shift in YG’s direction as the company strengthens its position in the music industry.

In their statement, YG expressed gratitude to the actors and fans who have supported them over the years, promising unwavering support until the very end of this transition. “We sincerely thank all the actors who have been with us and the fans who have shown so much love. We will ensure full support until the conclusion of this chapter,” YG shared.

The move reflects YG’s long-term preparations to streamline its operations around its music business. Last year, the company absorbed YGX into its global training center, enhancing its expertise and internal capabilities. Additionally, YG significantly expanded its internal producer team from around 10 to 50 members, fortifying its production ecosystem.

This focused approach has already shown impressive results. Rookie girl group Baby Monster, which debuted in April last year, has rapidly established themselves in the market. Following the success of their debut mini-album, they released their first full-length album in November, held a global fan meeting, and launched a global tour—all within their first year. The group has garnered critical acclaim and commercial success, selling an impressive 1.6 million albums in their debut year alone. Riding this momentum, Baby Monster is set to kick off their world tour with a concert in Seoul this January.

Looking ahead, YG plans to further amplify its artists’ activities. General Producer Yang Hyun-suk has declared 2025 as a year of unparalleled activity for YG artists. TREASURE, for instance, will remain in the spotlight with the release of a mini-album and their third full-length album, followed by their first-ever US tour, TREASURE 2025 FIRST US TOUR [SPECIAL MOMENT], in April. The group will also embark on a world tour in October.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is gearing up for a monumental comeback, coupled with a world tour, as part of a dedicated project organization established within YG to support their activities. In addition, the legendary 2NE1 is celebrating their 15th anniversary with a successful tour, showcasing YG’s continued commitment to supporting its iconic IPs.

“2025 will mark the first year where the fruits of our reorganization efforts become visible,” YG stated. “We are accelerating the development of new IPs while enhancing the sustainability of our existing ones. By focusing on our core competencies, we aim to solidify our leadership in the music industry and deliver another chapter of remarkable growth.”

With this renewed focus, YG Entertainment is poised to continue shaping the global music scene, cementing its legacy as a powerhouse in the K-pop industry.
