For his second male lead starrer, Cha Eun Woo confirms appearance to join MBC’s latest period drama in July.
Following the confirmation from Shin Se Kyung in February, Cha Eun Woo pairs up with the actress for Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung (working title).
Set in the background of early 19th century, the new series reels anticipation with its woman-empowering premise. The period drama threads on the struggle of female historians who face bias treatment in the society where Confucianism is deeply-rooted.
Taking the female lead is Shin Se Kyung, who will play the role of Goo Hae Ryung. This drama marks Shin’s third period series after acclaimed productions Tree With Deep Roots and Six Flying Dragons.
Meanwhile, Cha secures his first ever drama in a major network. Garnering huge following after his stint in jTBC’s My ID is Gangnam Beauty, Cha readies himself to elevate his acting portfolio with a plot-heavy production.
With that, he is set to portray the role of Prince Yi Rim. Sheltered as the second in line to the throne, the distant prince only knows love by theory. When he dons his other life outside the palace, he is interestingly a popular romance novelist celebrated in the city.
In one of his “other life” adventure he chances upon Goo Hae Ryung who will make his life outside the palace eventful because of love.
“I thought the script was so much fun, and I thought that the material of the female historian was fresh and cool,” Cha said.
In addition, the idol-actor remarked how Yi Rim’s character thrilled him. He promised to show his best to meet the expectations of the viewers.
Giving life to heroine Goo Hae Ryung, Shin Se Kyung aims to vaunt a vibrant character who will advocate change for women’s status in the Joseon period.
The actress expressed enjoyment upon reading the script which highlights an imaginative story. She also vowed to gift the audience with an excellent series.
