The roster of upcoming December dramas is a worthy collection to send off a year that has proved to be challenging.

Though K-Drama land is not spared from meeting production difficulties, we still have quite a few things to look forward to. While romance remains a popular theme in these December dramas, viewers are also gifted with two highly anticipated sageuk, comedy, psychological thrillers, office and youth series.

Ji Chang Wook, Im Si Wan, Kim Myung Soo, Go Joon, Hwang Jung Min, Lee Jin Wook, Cha Eun Woo and Song Kang are all ready to make viewers’ hearts race. Meanwhile, leading ladies Cho Yeo Jeong, Kim Ji Won, Moon Ga Young, Yoona, Shin Hye Sun, Kwon Na Ra, Shin Se Kyung and Lee Si Young are gearing up to showcase audiences with different charms.

Hellokpop’s 2020 drama calendar ends in November, thus making these December dramas part of next year’s timetable. Moreover, the dramas finishing its broadcast before December ends, will be included in our year-end review.

Cheat On Me If You Can

Cheat On Me If You Can follows the story of husband and wife Han Woo Sung and Kang Yeo Joo. Cho Yeo Jeong plays Kang Yeo Joo, a best-selling author of crime stories. She married Woo Sung (Go Joon), a successful divorce lawyer.

Woo Sung has signed a document stating that if ever he cheats on his wife, he deserves to die. The couple enjoys bliss all throughout their marriage, but just like in any relationship, trouble will soon find their way. Doubts and suspicion start to creep in. With Woo Sung’s reputation as the “Nation’s husband”, Yeo Joo is going all in to stake her claim.

Directing the series is Kim Hyung Suk (My Golden LifeOh My Venus). Writer Lee Sung Min (Queen of Mystery 1 and 2) takes on scriptwriting duties.


City Couple’s Way of Love: My Lovable Camera Thief (a.k.a. Lovestruck in the City)

Billed to be an urban romance drama, it depicts real love stories of young people. The romance plot takes a fast-paced approach in the backdrop of fun and colorful city landscape.

Promising a heart-fluttering saccharine story, City Couple’s Way of Love is a collaboration of two lauded K-Drama content creators. Director Park Shin Woo and writer Jung Hyun Jung team up for their first digital drama.

The series stars Ji Chang Wook as architect Park Jae Won, a hopeless romantic who is unable to forget a woman who vanished like a dream. Playing his love interest is the pretty and charming Kim Ji Won as Lee Eun Oh. She is a freelance marketer assumes a false identity and ends up falling in love with Park Jae Won.


True Beauty

True Beauty is based from the popular webtoon of the same name, which tells the story of a timid high school girl who has insecurities with her own appearance. After discovering the power of makeup, she became the center of interest at her school.

It is a romantic comedy series which tells the story of Lim Joo Kyung (Moon Ga Young), a girl who lacks confidence with her facial appearance. Determined to hide her true face from the world, she uses the power of makeup. Along with her “not-so-obvious” disguise, she meets Lee Soo Ho (Cha Eun Woo), a secretive boy with hidden scars, which soon became her friend.

Cast members include Hwang In Yeop, Park Ho San and Oh Eui Sik. True Beauty is directed by Kim Sang Hyub (Extraordinary YouThe King Loves), and written by Lee Si Eun (Top Star Yoo Baek).


Hush

Hush depicts the life of Han Joon Hyuk, a veteran reporter, and the passionate intern Lee Ji Soo. The drama revolves around the lives of journalists as ordinary salary workers, who are constantly confronted and shaken by the boundary between survival and conscience.

Seasoned actor Hwang Jung Min (The Spy Gone North) plays the role of Han Joon Hyuk. He is a veteran reporter in a newspaper company who has lost his passion after facing the harsh reality. Rather than being interested with justice and truth, he chooses to stay unbothered.

Meanwhile, portraying the role of daring intern reporter Lee Ji Soo is Girls’ Generation Yoona (The K2). She believes that food is mightier than pen. Ji Soo is an energetic and charming woman who is not afraid to speak her mind.

The drama stars Son Byung Ho, Kim Won Hae, Park Ho San and Lee Seung Joon, among others. Hush is directed by Choi Kyoo Sik and written for TV by Kim Jung Min.


Mr. Queen

One of the two historical dramas to premiere in December, Mr. Queen is sure to delight fans of the genre. Presented as a fusion sageuk, the series will mix romance, politics and palace intrigue, with a Joseon Queen hosting a spirit of a Blue House Chef from the future. Portraying Kim So Yong is Shin Hye Sun, who challenges herself with her first historical drama character. Playing the role of duplicitous and crafty King Cheoljong of Joseon is Kim Jung Hyun.

Rounding up the main cast are actors Sul In Ah, Bae Jong Ok and Kim Tae Woo. Directed by Yoon Sung Shik, the series will be backed up by STUDIO PLEX and CRAVEWORKS. Director Yoon has worked on Hwarang, You’re The Best Lee Soon Shin and Bridal Mask. Penning the script are writers Park Gye Ok and Choi Ah Il.


Run On

JTBC’s new Wednesday and Thursday series is a romance drama where people living in different worlds eventually establish firm relationship. Despite struggling with communication, they run on towards love.

Im Si Wan is back with a new role as a former track-and-field star athlete, Ki Seon Gyeom. Seon-gyeom, who seems to have nothing lacking, actually grew up in a quiet and wealthy upbringing. Like how typical rich household, he felt neglected and chose loneliness in order not to get hurt, He opts not to aspire for something afraid of feeling lost.

Shin Se Kyung plays Oh Mi Ju, who works as subtitle translator for movies. Meeting Seon Gyeom introduces her to the world of sprinting and romance will soon start to bloom. Completing the main cast are Kang Tae Oh and Girls’ Generations Soo Young.

Good Manager Director Lee Jae Hoon takes on directing duties while novice writer Park Si Hyun writes the script.


Sweet Home

Adapted from a popular webtoon of the same name, Sweet Home is a 10-episode VFX/SFX filled thriller. It takes a riveting route based on the unique premise of a world where people turn into monsters that reflect their own individual desires.

After losing his family, reclusive high school student Cha Hyeon Su moves into a new apartment called Green Home, where he faces bizarre and shocking circumstances. He confronts a series of life changing situations that brings him out to the world to save others.

Playing lead roles are actors Song Kang (Love Alarm) as Cha Hyeon Su and Lee Jin Wook (Voice) as Pyeong Sang Uk. They are joined by Lee Si Young (Liver or Die), Lee Do Hyun (18 Again) and Kim Nam-hee (Mr. Sunshine). Also included in the cast are Go Min-si (Love Alarm), Park Kyu-young (Romance is a Bonus Book), and Go Youn-jung (He Is Psychometric).

Director Lee Eung-bok (Mr. Sunshine, Goblin: The Lonely and Great God, Descendants of the Sun) is at the helm of the production. It will be produced by Studio Dragon, co-produced by Studio N, and written by Hong So-ri, Kim Hyung-min and Park So-jeong.


Secret Royal Inspector: Joseon Secret Investigation Team

Secret Royal Inspector: Joseon Secret Investigation Team (literal title) is about a secret royal investigator who goes undercover to expose and fight corruption. He is also keen on solving people’s problem.

Kim Myung Soo plays Sung Yi Gyeom  a librarian by day and a gambler by night. He has no ambitions and goals in life as he is more concerned in living in the present. However, when his gambling activity gets exposed, he is punished to suit up as a secret royal inspector.

Kwon Na Ra portrays Hong Da In, a daughter of the royal family. She is hiding her true identity because of a tragic incident that happened when she was a child. Da In disguises herself as a courtesan.

The series also stars Lee Yi Kyung, Lee Tae Hwan, Jo Soo Min and Ahn Nae Sang, among others. Grand Prince Director Kim Jung Min heads the production while writers Park Sung Hoon and Kang Min Sun both write the script.
