Reasons Why “Memories Of The Alhambra” Should Be In Your K-Drama Watch List
Memories Of The Alhambra aims to command attention with sword-wielding Hyun Bin, augmented reality game plot and scenic Spain as the story’s backdrop.
Upcoming tvN weekend series Memories Of Alhambra will showcase a suspense-romance story featuring fight scenes between players of AR games as they turn the gamers’ dream into reality.
Set in the captivating city of Granada in Spain, A-list actors Hyun Bin and Park Shin Hye will portray the lead characters.
In a press interview on Nov 28, Director Ahn Gil Ho said he envisioned a scenario that may happen in the future.
“Though the show depicts a more exaggerated picture than reality, I tried my level best to make it more realistic by imagining what might become reality in the coming years,” he remarked.
Reason 1: Fantasy Crossing Reality Plot
Hyun Bin plays the role of a CEO of an investment company who goes on a business trip to Granada after being contacted by an AR game developer. He then meets Jung Hee Joo (Park Shin Hye), an owner of an old hostel.
Things do not go on smoothly for the hero as he finds himself in trouble with his rival, who turns out to be his old friend.
In one of the scenes revealed in the trailer, Yoo is seen in a sword fight with his rival inside the AR game. The actor explained that it was only visible to the players in the show.
“Other than the users who are wearing smart lenses to enter the game, people can’t see the situation, which meant a great deal of acting based on imagination,” the actor stated.
He mentioned that similar scenes were shot multiple times from various angles to better depict the AR aspects of the series.
Memories Of The Alhambra is Hyun’s first drama after three years. He said the show’s theme of augmented reality came across as “stimulating” and “refreshing.”
While the drama highlights CGI effects of splendid swords and special contact lenses, actress Park Shin Hye hinted the show does not fall short on the romance front either.
“The show features various elements including melodrama, fantasy, suspense and thriller,” the actress said. She praised writer Song Jae Jung for the stellar screenplay.
Reason 2: Dream Drama Pairing
Fans of Hyun Bin and Park Shin Hye have been anticipating Memories Of Alhambra as this would mark their comeback drama after several years.
Hyun Bin’s last small screen appearance was the webtoon-based drama, Hyde Jekyll, Me. His other notable works include classic favorites My Lovely Sam Soon, Worlds Within, Secret Garden.
Although he kept a low profile in the small screen, he has worked on successful string of well-received film projects such as Confidential Assignment, The Negotiation, and Rampant.
On the other hand, his co-star Park Shin Hye recently appeared in off-grid reality show Little Cabin In The Woods. She last worked on full-length drama The Doctors. With a number of television dramas under her belt, it was romantic comedy You’re Beautiful that shot her to fame.
Memories Of The Alhambra airs on December 1 via tvN, and will be launched globally via Netflix.
