K-Drama Sneak Peek: “L.U.C.A: The Beginning” Trails The World of Genetics & Human Evolution With Kim Rae Won & Lee Da Hee
Premiering on February 1, L.U.C.A: The Beginning stars Kim Rae Won, Lee Da Hee, and Kim Sung Oh!
Threading on Charles Darwin’s ‘Theory of Evolution’ as its main concept, tvN’s upcoming series is expected to thrill viewers through its original worldview, which delves on a limitless pursuit of action.
L.U.C.A: The Beginning is a spectacular chase action series which follows the story of Ji Oh (Kim Rae Won), a man thrusted into the living realm all by himself. With a special ability to change the world, mysterious forces are in pursuit of him to acquire his secret.
While his origin and past unknown to him, Ji Oh confronts the world with violent crimes detective Gu Reum, the only person he remembers. They will work close together as they unravel Ji Oh’s past and Gu Reum’s parents’ disappearance.
The drama is based from Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution which defined the idea that species descended over time, giving rise to new species, and share a common ancestor. The title “L.U.C.A”, stands for “last universal common ancestor”.
Ji Oh (Kim Rae Won)
Kim Rae Won plays Ji Oh, a man who is being chased by unknown forces because of his ability to change the world. After being thrown in a world all alone, he neither has any recollection of his origin nor identity. It was the loneliness after being abandoned that dominated most of his memory. Yet, he lives a comfortable life on his own without having to fear anyone.
However, after getting entangled with detective Gu Reum, whom he rescued from a traffic accident, they started being chased by unidentified people. Thereon, he began questioning his past.
Gu Reum (Lee Da Hee)
Lee Da Hee plays Gu Reum, the only person living in Ji Oh’s memory. She works at the Criminal Investigation Department, but later transferred at the Violent Crimes Division while investigating the corruption of her boss.
When she was just a child, her parents went missing after leaving home with another child. She became an adult without knowing whether it was an accident or she had been abandoned, or who the child was. Even after becoming a detective, she persistently searches for her parents’ whereabouts.
While investigating a criminal case, she got into an accident. After finding out that Ji Oh, who saved her from dying, was the child who disappeared with his parents, she begins to investigate Ji Oh.
Lee Son (Kim Sung Oh)
Kim Sung Oh portrays Lee Son, a man who chases Ji Oh with beastly instincts. He is an agent from the special forces unit. During his counter-terrorism training, he mistook a grenade for a flash bullet and threw it which killed nine people.
He believes that whoever he kills is for the sake of his country. Chasing Ji Oh is also a way of showing his patriotism. However, he has repeatedly failed to catch him in the past and up until the present. He realizes that he can never catch Ji Oh with his own skills, and so he tries to make reckless choices that risk his life just to hunt him down.
L.U.C.A: The Beginning will be helmed by Director Kim Hong Sun, who led the evolution of the genre by establishing unique worldviews in dramas such as Voice 1 and The Guest.
He will team up with writer Chun Sung Il, who took part in the creative process of the film The Pirates and 7th Grade Civil Servant.
Meanwhile, leading Korean film cinematographer Choi Young Hwan will evince his talent by providing world-class cinematic effect for the series. His past works include The Thieves and Berlin.
In addition, martial arts director Jang Jae Wook from the movie The Great Battle will add strength and raise expectations for the action scenes on a different scale.
L.U.C.A: The Beginning will premiere on February 1 at 9 pm (KST) via tvN.
