‘The WONDERfools’ Trailer Drops: Netflix Sets 1999 Superpower Comedy Premiere for May 15
Netflix has released the main trailer and poster for The WONDERfools, a 1999-set comedy adventure following a group of neighborhood misfits who suddenly gain superpowers and are thrust into an unexpected mission to save their city.
The trailer opens with a dramatic hook as Chae-ni, played by Park Eun-bin, appears with blood streaming from her nose, questioning if she is about to die. Moments later, she develops teleportation abilities, bouncing across locations—from an abandoned greenhouse to a boat—and even slipping into the Joseon era through a wardrobe.
Other characters quickly discover their own unusual powers. Ro-bin (Im Seong-jae) accidentally punches a hole through a wall with a thrown can, while Gyeong-hun (Choi Dae-hoon) finds himself physically stuck in place. Their confusion highlights how their everyday lives are abruptly disrupted.
The trio later encounters Un-jeong, portrayed by Cha Eun-woo, who demonstrates telekinesis. Mistaking him for a mentor, they begin following him, creating an awkward but comedic dynamic.
Tension builds as reports emerge of people mysteriously disappearing—echoing incidents from two decades earlier. The introduction of Dr. Ha Won-do and a group known as the “Wunderkinder” raises questions about the origins of the powers and the potential threat facing Haeseong-si.
The main poster depicts a chaotic, disaster-stricken city, with the four leads showcasing their abilities amid collapsing structures and flying debris, hinting at a high-stakes yet comedic battle to protect their community.
Featuring humor, fantasy, and action, The WONDERfools is scheduled to premiere globally on May 15 on Netflix.
