The ‘European’ Street In Seoul: Sinsa-dong Garosu-gil

By  |

After Psy put Gangnam on the world map with his worldwide phenomenon “Gangnam Style”, who doesn’t know Gangnam ever since then. However, some may or may not know, but these are Gangnam’s most famous neighbourhoods – Apgujeong, Cheongdam-dong and Sinsa-dong, so it was no surprise that Sinsa-dong – Garosu-gil, also commonly known as ‘Europe in Seoul’, was part of our schedule on day 5 of Korea Joa 2015.

At the late sunny morning, our limousine bus took us up to the roadside as we set on foot to explore the tree-lined street of Garosu-gil Road in Sinsa-dong. This area of Gangnam is distinctly different from other neighbouring Apgujeong and Cheongdam-dong where high-end luxury stores are located. Adorned with ginkgo trees, Sinsa-dong is popular with locals and tourists for its interesting mix of local and international brands of bars, cafes, restaurants, boutiques, bookshops, galleries and others. Along the road, we also spotted many roadside sellers with handmade accessories such as hand bracelets, earrings and necklaces.

There was also a small flea market which caught our attention. We stopped by and took some time to browse around and noted that most goods were actually going at ₩10,000 and below. What a bargain!

We couldn’t miss this one with the eye-catching and outstanding shop front – LINE Friends Café & Store. Whether you are a fan of LINE friends or not, it’s hard to resist entering such welcoming store, isn’t it?

This was really super random as ‘he’ just appeared on the tiled wall of a small building for passersby to take photos with ‘him’. Can you recognize him? (Hint: an actor)

Apart from boutiques and stores, cafes and restaurants are also everywhere in Garosu-gil. You will be spoilt for choice, making it one of the most ideal places for going on dates, hanging out with friends, taking pictures, or simply just for leisure shopping.

How To Get There:

Take Line 3 to Sinsa Station. Go out at exit 8 and walk straight (approximately 800m). Turn left at J-Tower, which is that tall glass building three blocks down.

Alternatively, Garosu-gil can be accessed from Apgujeong Station (subway Line 3). Go out at exit 5 and walk for about 15 minutes. Turn left at Kraze Burger restaurant.
