“BTS World” OST Topples 17-Year Best-selling Soundtrack “Winter Sonata” In Korea
BTS World has broken a long-running record by one of the top K-Dramas of all time.
The success of BTS World continues to amaze the music scene as its lineup of original soundtracks takes home a new nationwide record.
In the Gaon Monthly Chart report shared recently, it was revealed that the OST album recorded 498,455 copies sold since its release.
This success is amplified by the fact that the songs were made merely for the promotion of BTS’ mobile game collaboration with Netmarble, yet its album compilation is able to sell so much. Additionally, each track was able to land impressive spots in domestic and international music charts.
With its humongous sales record, the BTS World OST album has now become crowned as the “Best-selling Original Soundtrack (OST)” in Korea.
It has broken the 17-year record of the hit Korean drama Winter Sonata set in 2002, with its OST album sold over 402,000 copies.
This week, BTS swept the top five spots in Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart – and three tracks from the OST album made it to the list.
In fact, ranking first was the full group original soundtrack for BTS World, titled “Heartbeat”. With this, the song also marked its massive debut on the chart.
Along with “Heartbeat”, the album listed several other tracks like the three sub-unit singles “Dream Glow”, “A Brand New Day”, and “All Night”, which also had the group’s members collaborating with international artists Charli XCX, Zara Larsson, and Juice WRLD.
