G-Dragon’s mini album ”One of a Kind” to be released digitally on September 15, physical album on September 18
G-Dragon is the team leader of BIGBANG and has participated in every BIGBANG album as a songwriter and producer. His debut solo album, Heartbreaker, was the most successful and top-selling album in Korea of 2009 and won Album of the Year at the MNet Asian Music Awards as well as the Melon Music Awards. His 2010 collaboration with bandmate, T.O.P, for the album GD & TOP went number one with three singles grabbing the top three spots including the single Knockout which was produced by Diplo. G-Dragon has most recently collaborated on label-mate PSY’s album which includes the number one global hit, Gangnam Style, on the opening track titled Tree Frogs. BIGBANG also won Best Worldwide Act at last year’s MTV Europe Music Awards and is currently on a 25-city, 16-country Live Nation World Tour with stops at Honda Center in LA on 11/3 and the Prudential Center in NJ on 11/9.
After a 3-year hiatus as a solo artist, G-Dragon will be making his comeback with a new mini-album. The album’s track list was revealed on YG’s official blog, www.YG-Life.com.
One of a Kind, which is scheduled for digital release on September 15 and physical release on September 18 contains seven tracks, of which the second track CRAYON will be the title song. Crayon was co-produced and co-written by G-Dragon along with YG Entertainment’s main producer Teddy Park. The name “Crayon” is derived from a combination of the words ‘Crazy’ + ‘G-Dragon’.
The album has great anticipation from fans due to G-Dragon’s personal participation in the production of all seven tracks, as well as the featured various artistes in the album.
Generating the most interest among the track list will be Ultimately, which features ? of YG New Girl Group. Fans are speculating that it was an unnamed member of YG’s upcoming female group member who participated in the album, following Jennie Kim‘s appearance as the female lead in G-Dragon’s That XX music video.
Other special appearances of the album include Jaurim‘s Kim Yoona, who is featured in the 5th track Missing You and Nell‘s Kim Jong Wan who has participated in the 6th track Today. In addition, the 7th bonus track titled Light the Fire features Tablo and underground rapper DOK2, raising the anticipation on how the artistes and G-Dragon’s musical styles will blend in this explosive track.
Meanwhile, That XX has taken the top spot on music sites and is being noted for being the first track deemed restrictive for minors. As a result, it is evident that G-Dragon’s music appeals not only to teens and the 20s, but also to wide range of age groups.
The music video for One of a Kind gathered over 10 million YouTube views in one week while the video for That XX received over 8 million views in just two weeks after its release, and even before official promotions, G-Dragon has been receiving much love from fans around the world.
