Titled “Birthday”, the catchy new bop marked the solo debut of the former I.O.I center as the lead track of her single album.
In line with its title, the song’s music video took viewers to a sassy and colorful birthday party thrown by the singer. Winning the nation’s hearts once again, Somi whipped out her fun and bubbly personality which fans dearly missed as she slayed the scene from the video’s start to finish.

The singer’s styling and wardrobe in the music video also deserve so much commendation, especially with how many outfit pegs it had left us saving afterward. The pop of colors also worked out well in making her stand out even more – in fact, the entire music video looked like a work of art thanks to its bright and vibrant sets and themes.

The song itself contains a very addictive, high tempo beat which makes it easy to get stuck on the listeners’ heads. It was also able to put the spotlight on Somi’s powerful vocals – which fans dearly missed – and even showed off rhythmical rap to match.
Additionally, “Birthday” dropped alongside the singer’s self-composed B-side track titled “Outta My Head”. Containing a more R&B feel with its emotional vocals and sorrowful lyrics, “Outta My Head” contrasts with Somi’s lead single’s fun and quirky vibe. With these two tracks lined up next to each other, the singer’s vocal colors definitely got to prove itself – and it’s only the start of her solo career.
