Congratulations, NCT 127!

Korean boy group NCT 127 becomes the “biggest hit” with its third mini album Cherry Bomb. Released on June 14, the newest album of the Seoul-based sub-unit of the South Korean boy group NCT has garnered much love and interest from local and international K-Pop fans.

Cherry Bomb recorded over 101, 400 pre-orders, and topped music charts in 11 countries. It secured the top spot in countries such as Norway, Argentina, Russia, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Colombia, Kazakhstan and Brunei. Aside from these, NCT 127 was also selected as Apple Music’s “New Artist of the Week”.

A music video for its title track of the same title was released on June 14. Described by Billboard as a “complex synth and bass-infused track”, “Cherry Bomb” was co-written by NCT 127’s rapper Taeyong and Mark.

“The single turns the conventional K-pop song-structure on its head, placing an emphasis on rapping over singing, with only a handful of melodic interludes outside of the chanty chorus,” wrote Tamar Herman of Billboard.

The third mini album contains seven tracks, namely “Cherry Bomb”, “Running 2 U”, “0 Mile”, “Sun & Moon”, “Whiplash”, “Summer 127”, and the performance version of its title track. Aside from helping in the lyrics composition of “Cherry Bomb”, Taeyong and Mark wrote lyrics for five other tracks.

In line with the newest release, the group held its first comeback showcase, which was sold out in five seconds. NCT 127 then had its first come back stage for “Cherry Bomb” in Mnet’s M! Countdown on June 15.
