Philippine ELFs Secure MV Win For Super Junior On Local Music Awards
Congratulations, Super Junior and ELFs!
Fans of South Korean boy group Super Junior in the Philippines proved their fandom power in the recently concluded MYX Music Awards. They secured a win for the group’s music video “Black Suit”.
The music video for the title song of the group’s eighth studio album, Play, won against “Look What You Made Me Do” of Taylor Swift, “Perfect” of Ed Sheeran, “Sign of the Times” of Harry Styles, and “Touch” of Little Mix and was named International Video of the Year.
The MYX Music Awards is an annual awards ceremony presented by cable channel MYX. The show was held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on May 15. The awards decides the winner in 17 categories through 60 percent fan votes and 40 percent artist votes.
Not their first trophy
Back in 2011, Super Junior earned its first nomination in the music awards for its “Bonamana” music video. It competed alongside other releases of K-Pop artists in the now-defunct category Favorite K-Pop Video.
After failing to win an award in 2011, the boy group successfully earned its first MYX Music Award trophy in 2012 with “Mr. Simple” as Favorite K-Pop Video of the Year.
The year 2013 once again saw Super Junior, through “Sexy, Free & Single”, take the throne against phenomenal hit “Gangnam Style” of Psy, “I Love You” of 2NE1, “Monster” of BIGBANG, and “Twinkle” of SNSD’s TaeTiSeo.
In 2015, Donghae and Eunhyuk’s “Still You” MV received a nomination in the same category.
Meanwhile, Super Junior will reportedly return to the Philippine concert scene through the staging of its seventh international tour, Super Show 7, in Manila. However, no official announcement has been made as of press time about the said concert.
If Super Show 7 in Manila happens, it will be the third solo concert of the boy group following Super Show 2 in 2010 and Super Show 3 in 2011.
