TOP affirms leaving BIGBANG and is prepared to start a new chapter in his career.

The rapper answered a fan’s inquiry on his Instagram by outright admitting that he had left the group. “I’ve already left,” he wrote. “I’ve said that I’m leaving since last year,” he remarked, adding that he is embarking on a new chapter in his life.

The public’s reactions to his leaving the group were divided; while some wished him luck in his future undertakings, others expressed sorrow and sadness.

Following the expiration of his contract, TOP formally left YG Entertainment in February. Back then, the company informed fans that the rapper would take part in BIGBANG activities whenever possible.

Since then, the rapper has launched a wine company and is scheduled to join Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa on a SpaceX spacecraft for a voyage to the moon.

TOP debuted as a member of BIGBANG in 2006 alongside G-Dragon, Taeyang, Daesung, and Seungri. The group went on to become one of the best-selling boy groups worldwide and among the top groups of all time in Asia.

They released “Still Life” in 2022, which was their last single before their contracts with YG Entertainment ended. With the exception of G-Dragon, all members have opted not to renew their contracts with the company and are instead focusing on their solo careers with different agencies.

“Still Life” enjoyed commercial success, reaching the top of the charts in a number of different countries, and winning accolades from several award-giving bodies. With the song, BIGBANG won the Best Vocal Performance by a Group at the 2022 Mnet Asian Music Awards as well as the Digital Bonsang at the 2023 Golden Disc Awards. Additionally, “Still Life” received nine music show wins.
