“Parasite” Wins Big In The 40th Blue Dragon Film Awards + List of Winners

The internationally-acclaimed film took home five trophies, making it the biggest winner of the night.

Parasite has dominated the biggest year-end film awarding ceremony as it bagged major trophies in the recently-concluded 40th Blue Dragon Film Awards. Held in Paradise City Hotel and Resort in Incheon, South Korea on November 21, stars gathered and lit up the red carpet as well as the entire venue.

The Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or awardee won the Best Film. Bong Joon Ho bagged the Best Director award and Cho Yeo Jeong hailed as the Best Actress. The Best Supporting Actress nod went to Lee Jung Eun and Lee Ha Joon won Best Art Direction.

Meanwhile, Jung Woo Sung, who starred in the movie Innocent Witness, was awarded the Best Actor trophy. Best Supporting Actor award went to Jo Woo Jin for his role in the film Default.

Park Hae Soo (By Quantum Physics: A Nightlife Venture) made history as the oldest recipient of the Best New Actor trophy at 38 years old. Kim Hye Joon (Another Child) took the Best New Actress award.

This year’s Blue Dragon Film Awards recognized 21 Korean films, 10 directors and 30 actors who all made a significant impact to movie audiences. Included in the selection were Korean films released from October 12, 2018 to October 10, 2019.

Judges comprised of industry experts voted for the nominees, after which the Blue Dragon Film Awards jury took over to determine and select the winners in each category.

  • Lee Ha Joon (Parasite) – Best Art Direction
  • Yoon Jin Yool and Kwon Ji Hoon (Exit) – Technical Award
  • Jang Yoo Jin (Milk) – Best Short Film
  • Extreme Job – Audience Choice Award for Most Popular Film
