BTS & Lee Min Ho Hailed As Favorite Hallyu Stars In Recent International Survey
The rise of Hallyu (Korean wave) continues across the world!
South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Foundation for International Culture Exchange recently recognized the most-loved Korean stars and content through the 2021 Overseas Hallyu Survey.
A total of 8,500 Korean cultural content consumers from 18 countries, including the United States, China, Japan, and more, participated in the survey. It was conducted online from September 24 to November 4, 2020.
Unrivaled power of BTS
Asked on their favorite Korean singer, 22 percent of the respondents have chosen the worldwide K-Pop septet BTS. Remarkably, the boy group achieved a 6.8 percent rise in their score from the previous year. Coming in to take the second to fifth spots are BLACKPINK, PSY, TWICE, and EXO.
Lee Min Ho’s massive popularity
As for the Korean actors, Lee Min Ho bagged the top spot with 9.6 percent of respondents voting him as their favorite. Hyun Bin took the second spot, while Gong Yoo, Song Hye Kyo, and Lee Jong Suk placed third to fifth, respectively.
Other Hallyu faves
Aside from the hottest celebrities, the respondents likewise selected their favorite Korean content. The award-winning movie “Parasite” ranked No.1 for film with a score of 18.4 percent. Meanwhile, popular tvN series Crash Landing on You became the top Korean drama with a 9.5 percent of votes.
