BTS To Meet American President Joe Biden For AANHPI Heritage Month
BTS will be going to the White House!
Unrivaled South Korean boy group BTS has confirmed to grace the White House and meet the American President Joe Biden.
Officially inviting the globally-awarded septet, the White House announced on May 26 (local time) that BTS agreed to visit the United States and meet its President. “BTS will meet President Joe Biden at the White House and will discuss anti-Asian hate crime issues,” a representative from the White House said.
BTS will visit the White House on May 31. May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Culture Month, and the White House requested a visit from BTS to commemorate this.
According to the White House, President Biden has worked to combat a surge in hate crimes against Asians in recent years. In May of last year, he also signed into law the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act to provide law enforcement with resources to identify, investigate, and report hate crimes and ensure that the information is more accessible.
In addition, the White House explained the reason for the invitation, “President Biden and BTS will also discuss the importance of diversity and inclusion and BTS’ platform as youth ambassadors who spread a message of hope and positivity across the world.”
BTS’ leader RM expressed his excitement on Weverse. “A lot of things are happening as I’m living. We will have a good visit since we’re going for a good purpose. When I was traveling to the US, I only came to see (the White House) from a distance. I will be able to enter (this time),” he wrote.
Moreover, Jungkook took his flight to the U.S. earlier today while the rest of the BTS members will depart tomorrow.
