Former NU’EST Member Choi Mingi Signs Exclusive Contract With Big Planet Made
All the good luck and cheers on this new endeavor, Ren!
A new chapter opens for Choi Mingi’s career as the former NU’EST member enters an exclusive contract with Big Planet Made.
Known by his stage name Ren, Choi Mingi debuted with NU’EST in 2012 under Pledis Entertainment. Entering the K-Pop industry with a bang, NU’EST became a hot topic with its debut song “FACE” gaining huge attention for its experimental tune and timely theme.
Although not as well-known as their debut, NU’EST continued to deliver distinctive and unique songs that eventually received its much-deserving praise.
In particular, after almost disbanding, four out of five NU’EST members tried their luck in the Mnet survival program Produce 101 Season 2, from which Minhyun became a member of Wanna One.
Through the unexpected opportunity, the 2012 song “Hello” dominated music charts, giving the group the monicker “reversal boy group.”
Minhyun returned with NU’EST after his stint with Wanna One and released “BET BET,” the title track from the 6th mini-album Happily Ever After. NU’EST then went on to perform hit songs such as “Love Me,” “I’m In Trouble,” and “Inside Out.”
However, NU’EST saw an end to its 10-year career when Pledis Entertainment announced that the group’s exclusive contract will expire on March 14, 2022. Aron, JR, and Ren left the agency while Baekho and Minhyun decided to extend their contracts with the label.
To commemorate the visual group’s 10th anniversary, the special album Needle & Bubble was released on March 15, featuring the new songs “GALAXY” and “Again.”
Ren Starts Anew With Big Planet Made
On May 7, Big Planet Made confirmed that Ren has joined the company through a new profile image shared on the label’s official social media accounts.
Previously, Big Planet Made released a teaser image with the words “WHO’S NEXT?” with lotus flowers as a symbol, raising fans’ curiosity. It turned out that “Ren” meant lotus in Japanese, and it was an apt representation of his unrivaled visuals.
Ren’s career with NU’EST has shown him to be an all-rounder who is talented in both singing and dancing. He also transformed into a musical actor and stood out as the main character in Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Jamie.
As a result, Big Planet Made expressed their delight at having Ren on board, describing him as an artist with versatile talents and musicality. “We will give our full support to Ren for his future activities. Please send Ren lots of love and support as he steps out on his own for the first time, beginning a new chapter in his career.”
Meanwhile, Big Planet Made houses several artists with both skills and individuality. This includes former SISTAR member Soyou, VIVIZ, Huh Gak, Ha Sung Woon, Lee Mujin, and Be’O. Actor Jo Soomin is also among the talented artists from BPM Entertainment, who played an active role in the Kdrama Penthouse. Korea’s leading hip-hop duo Mighty Mouth is also under Big Planet Made.
