EXO’s Lay Zhang Wins “Best Male Supporting Actor” At The 25th Huading Awards

From music to acting, Lay Zhang and his fans have so much to celebrate!

After breaking records and setting new milestones on QQ Music with his new album Honey on June 11, EXO’s Lay Zhang brought home another trophy and added a new achievement under his name on June 12 — this time, for acting.

The singer-songwriter, who also actively pursues an acting career, received the Best Male Supporting Award at the 25th Huading Awards held at the Broadway Theatre in Macau. The EXO member was recognized for his stellar performance in the box office hit movie The Island which opened in August 2018.

In the film, Lay Zhang played Xao Xing, Ma Jin’s goofy best budy. The singer-songwriter headlined the film with fellow Go Fighting! cast member Huang Bo who played Ma Jin and also directed the film.

Lay Zhang’s Best Male Supporting Actor nod at the 25th Huading Awards marks his second award for his portrayal in The Island after he was named Most Popular Supporting Actor at the Guangzhou College Student Film Festival last year.

In his speech, the EXO member promised to work hard and make better works in the future. He then relayed his gratitude for the award.

From Singer-Songwriter to Actor: The Acting Career of Lay

Lay Zhang has starred in various film and television productions. He debuted in the big screen with a supporting role in Ex-Files 2. He went on to appear in films such as Oh My God, Kung Fu Yoga, and The Founding of an Army. The singer-actor also took significant roles in dramas To Be A Better Man, The Mystic Nine, Operation Love, The Golden Eyes, and Empress of the Ming.

As an actor, Lay Zhang has received the acting awards from various award-giving bodies for his performances in films and television series.

In 2016, he was named Best Supporting Actor at the 4th China Britain Film Festival for Ex-Files 2: The Backup Strikes Back. He also received recognition at the 2nd China Television Drama Quality Ceremony and the CCTV Flowers in the May Gala.

D-1 to a Sweet Treat from Lay with Honey

Meanwhile, Lay Zhang will drop his new album Honey on June 14 with four self-composed tracks namely the English and Chinese versions of the lead song “Honey”, “Amusement Park”, and “Bad”.

Prior to the release of the album, it already broke records and created new milestones on QQ Music with its pre-orders alone. Additionally, it achieved Gold Diamond Certification in only three minutes and 23 seconds, making it the fastest album to reach the feat. The EXO member, through his studio, drops a teaser for “Honey” on June 13.

Lay Zhang will also embark on a concert tour called Grand Line starting July 6 in Shanghai. As of press time, tickets for the Shanghai and Nanjing concerts have been sold out.
