EXO’s Lay Makes History On Billboard Charts With “NAMANANA”
Lay of EXO proves he is unstoppable as he makes an impressive debut on Billboard 200!
After his Top Ten debut on Billboard’s Social 50 chart, Lay of EXO continued to make his presence known on Billboard charts this week as he creates history for Mandarin Pop and Korean Pop with his third solo album and US debut album NAMANANA.
The singer-songwriter, who released his third “child” on October 19, made his first entrance on Billboard 200 chart at number 21 after earning a total of 24,000 equivalent album units for the week ending October 25 based on the figures by Nielsen Music.
Lay becomes the first Chinese singer to achieve such feat and as a member of K-Pop boy group EXO, he is also the highest-charting K-Pop solo act on Billboard 200.
The chart, currently topped by the soundtrack of the film A Star Is Born, is a weekly chart, which ranks the most popular albums in the United States through a multi-metric consumption measured in equivalent album units comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums, and streaming equivalent albums.
Aside from his Billboard 200 debut, the singer-songwriter recorded his fourth entry and his highest peak on Billboard’s World Album chart this week after NAMANANA ranked number one on the chart. His 2016 extended play Lose Control and 2017 album Lay 02 SHEEP both peaked at the fourth spot of the chart, while his Winter Special Gift EP ranked eighth.
NAMANANA also took over the Independent Albums chart as it positioned itself on the top spot. The album also ranked high on Top Album Sales chart at number four and Digital Album Sales at number 14.
Moreover, Lay is setting another peak position on Billboard’s Social 50 chart. For the week of November 3, the singer-songwriter placed seventh on the chart, a jump from his second-week position of 28th.
NAMANANA is the third solo album and second studio album of Lay. The album contains a total of 22 tracks — 11 tracks in Chinese and their English equivalents. It is led by the single of the same title.
Meanwhile, Lay is set to return with EXO via the boy group’s fifth full album Don’t Mess Up Tempo out on November 2.
