IU And Suga Take Over The Music Charts With “Eight”
The powerhouse duo’s comforting ode to the world is surely pulling on everyone’s heartstrings, as seen in their music chart performance.
Barely an hour after its initial release, IU and Suga’s much-awaited collaboration made its way towards the music charts. The pair’s recent release has truly been well-received—and it shows in their domination of the charts.
On 6PM KST, “Eight” topped major music charts such as MelOn, Genie, Bugs and Soribada. Notably, the track broke the record for most unique listeners in the first hour on MelOn—records which were previously set by BTS and IU with their individual releases.
199,327 listeners were tuned in during the first hour of the track’s release, surpassing BTS’ “ON,” which recorded 123,489 listeners; and IU’s “Love Poem,” which recorded 121,111 listeners during its initial release last November. The song was also well-received by ARMYs and UAENAs alike as the tags #IUxSUGA and #EightOutNow trended on Twitter.
“Eight” is a pop-rock song, a track that is a nostalgic testament to memory and its ability to help one find infinite happiness again. IU penned the lyrics, and was involved with the composition and arrangement of the track. SUGA, meanwhile, produced the track and lent his rapping skills and created the piano and synth-backed instrumental.
