Parasites’ Immense Success

Grabbing the first-ever Oscar Best Picture nomination for a Korean film, the 2019 Palme d’Or awardee, adds it to its list of milestones. On January 13th, the film snagged two awards at the 25th Critics’ Choice Awards.

The Critic’s Choice awarded the film as the Best Foreign Language Film.

Director Bong Jong Ho won Best Director in a tie with Sam Mendes for 1917.

The film soared high because of its brilliance and popularity. On January 11, Parasite received four awards out of 8 nominations from the Georgia Film Critics Association. The film took home Best Picture, Best Director for Bong Joon Ho, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Foreign Language Film.

Just last year, it already won the Best Picture For Foreign Language Film at the 77th Golden Globes Awards. It also took several recognitions from Chicago’s Film Critics. Parasite won Best Picture, Best Foreign Language Film, and Best Original Screenplay. Bong Joon Ho won too as he was awarded as the Best Director.

Another set of awards the film, Parasite, received were from the film critics association in Los Angeles. The movie took home 3 awards, Best Film, Best Director for Bong Joon Ho, and Best Supporting Actor for Song Kang Ho.

Parasite has changed the course of Korean films. It has further opened the doorway for people to appreciate non-English films.
