SEVENTEEN’s ‘AI1’ Becomes Best-Selling K-Pop Album And Song Of The Week + Records Biggest US Sales Week For The Group

2017 is becoming SEVENTEEN’s year.

After selling out their album showcase in three minutes last month and winning the top spot in KBS’s ‘Music Bank’ on June 2, Korean boy group SEVENTEEN returned with an impressive fourth mini album that opened the doors to more accomplishments in American entertainment media Billboard.

According to Billboard, the 13-member group’s fourth mini album ‘AI1’ is the week’s best-selling K-Pop album.

‘AI1’ clinched the second spot in the World Albums Chart upon its release on May 22. It also recorded the biggest US sales week of SEVENTEEN with 2,000 copies sold in the week ending May 25. It beats out the group’s previous recorded of ‘Love & Letter’ album in 2016, with a little more than 1,000 copies sold in a week. The fourth mini album, which contains eight tracks, saw the group in the top ten of the World Albums Chart for the fifth time.

In 2015, the boys’ debut album ’17 Carat’ landed on the ninth spot upon its release and peaked at the eighth spot. ‘Boys Be’, on the one hand, is the group’s only album yet to reach the top spot in the said chart, while their 2016 releases ‘Love & Letter’ and ‘Going SEVENTEEN’ both peaked at the number three spot.

The Heatseekers Albums Chart also saw ‘AI1’ on the tenth spot. The said chart, according to Billboard, sees much less K-Pop acts ranking. However for SEVENTEEN, their fourth mini album marked their third entry in the chart, following ‘Love & Letter’ and ‘Going SEVENTEEN’.

The album’s title track Don’t Wanna Cry is also the week’s best-selling K-Pop song. The newest track, which utilizes electronic music and showcases the vocals of the members, debuted at the third spot on the World Digital Song Sales Chart. It was the group’s second best performance in the chart after Very Nice in 2016.

SEVENTEEN will embark in its first world tour this year, beginning in July. The ‘2017 SEVENTEEN 1ST WORLD TOUR ‘DIAMOND EDGE’ will visit 13 cities across the globe. It will kick off in Seoul with a three-day concert from July 14 to 16.

They will then travel to Saitama, Bangkok and Hong Kong. The tour will also happen in North America particularly in Chicago, Dallas, Toronto and New York.

Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Singapore will fill up the group’s September schedule. On the other hand, Taipei and Manila will get to see them in October.
