SHINee’s Onew Talks About “DICE” + Influences On His Music

Talented idol Onew revealed his versatile charms in his latest photoshoot with Marie Claire Korea. Donning fashionable and neutral outfits which highlight his effortless beauty, the singer is making many heads turn with his out-of-this-world visuals.

ON DICE AND SELF IMPROVEMENT
In an interview that came with the pictorial, Onew talked about his latest solo album DICE and how it differs from his debut album VOICE. He shared he prepared for DICE ] with the hopes that other people would also feel the difference.
“When thinking of Onew, people likely would’ve predicted a lyrical ballad or a song with a slow tempo. This time, I tried to find the middle between Onew and SHINee,” he elaborated.
He continued, “SHINee is a team with definitive performances and character. How should I say this? If SHINee is a totally bright color, I tried to find a bit of a pastel color. Before this, I think my color was a bit hazy. I think this album is the moment I leave my first footstep to finding my own color. Since this is my first time promoting a solo album, I wanted to expand my spectrum.”
Onew, who has been in the industry for almost 14 years, added that DICE is the start and only at the 50 percent mark of everything he wants to achieve.
“I started VOICE with the thought that I wanted to let go of that compulsion for new things. Then when I was preparing for my second album, I thought that I’d be able to do more things in the future if I did something different than last time. While I can, I want to do everything I’m able to. I’m going to try and find what I like in each moment,” the idol stated.
When asked how he strives to constantly do better, the SHINee member shared, “I want to do unbelievably well. However, by my standards, I’m still not doing that well. While singing, I don’t think I’ve ever been fully satisfied [with my own performance]. That’s why I want to keep filling that.”
ON HIS MUSIC INFLUENCES
Onew also admitted that his fellow SHINee members have encouraged and influenced him to do the music he always wanted to do.
He said, “It’s the driving force that makes me think. Because I had my members, I am able to be here now, and because I had my members, we are able to be together as SHINee. If I didn’t have SHINee, I wouldn’t have been able to do the music I wanted to do. As time goes by, the image of my performances may change a lot. However, I want to protect the stage for a very long time.”
