ZE:A’s Park Hyung Sik Talks About Acting, Future Plans And Park Bo Young
Can’t get enough of Park Hyung Sik?
South Korean singer and actor Park Hyung Sik opened up on how acting helped him, ‘Strong Woman Do Bong Soon’ co-star Park Bo Young and future acting plans in an exclusive interview with Yonhap News on April 21.
The 26-year-old singer and actor revealed that acting helped him to seek his inner self both as an artist and a person. “I stumbled upon the question ‘Who am I’ when going through the mechanical motions as an idol musician,” he revealed.
According to Park, it enabled him to learn the importance of maintaining one’s self. “My mind isn’t wandering any longer,” he said, adding that he is in a stable phase now.
The ‘Strong Woman Do Bong Soon’ actor began his career in 2010 as a member of K-pop boy group ZE:A. Park, along with members Siwan, Kwang Hee, Dong Jun, Min Woo, Kevin, Tae Heon, Hee Chul and Lee Hoo, released ZE:A’s debut single album ‘Nativity’ with its title track Mazeltov on January 7, 2010.
In the same year, Park appeared in various dramas through cameo appearances. The singer-turned-actor officially began his acting career via SBS’s 2012 special drama ‘I Remember You’ as Tae Sung. This was followed by a supporting role in SBS’s ‘Dummy Mommy’ in 2012.
He continued building up his acting résumé by joining the cast of dramas such as ‘Nine: Nine Time Travels’, ‘The Heirs’, ‘What’s With The Family’ and ‘High Society’.
Maturity In Acting And ‘Strong Woman Do Bong Soon’
Among the acting projects he had, Park considered his 2016 period drama ‘Hwarang’ which he actually felt his maturity in acting.
“Before I had difficulty expressing what I had in my head. But since ‘Hwarang,’ I’ve got the feeling that I’m moving forward from my past experiences,” he said.
In ‘Hwarang’, the ZE:A member played the character of the young King Jinheung during the Silla Kingdom. He also took part in the drama’s original soundtrack (OST) with I’ll Be Here.
He recently wrapped up the hit JTBC series ‘Strong Woman Do Bong Soon’. The romantic-comedy drama marked his first leading role. Park brought to life Ahn Min Hyuk, a gaming company CEO. He starred opposite actress Park Bo Young.
According to him, he relied heavily on his leading actress during the filming of the drama. “During script readings, Park’s presence was really huge for me,” he said.
He added that the actress was like a teacher to him. “We became close personally, but I was also amazed by her acting. I learned a lot from her,” he said.
The JTBC drama was a hit, with its premiere episode garnering 3.8 percent. It then concluded its run with a viewership rating of 8.96 percent. ‘Strong Woman Do Bong Soon’ had the highest rating among all JTBC dramas.
Future Plans: Acting and Variety Show
After the success of his romantic-comedy drama, Park Hyung Sik revealed he wanted to take on a melodrama in the future. “I’m pondering trying something with a strong melodramatic story,” he said.
He also added that his intention to take part in a show with close male friends. ” I also want to act in a show in which close male buddies cuss at each other and get into trouble,” he said with a laugh.
Aside from acting, Park drew attention for his participation in MBC’s military variety show ‘Real Men’ in 2013, where he was given the nickname “baby soldier”. He was also part of the ‘Law of the Jungle: Indochina’ season and did ‘Celebrity Bromance’ with Super Junior‘s Ryeowook.
