Produce X 101 Recap: First Ranking Ceremony Names Kim Yo Han As Top Trainee

Last night’s episode of Mnet’s survival program revealed the top 60 trainees picked by National Producers.

Produce X 101 first ranking announcement, aired on May 31, showed a lot of emotions from trainees who made the cut and those who have been eliminated. OUI Entertainment’s Kim Yo Han bested all trainees as he lands on the number one spot with 1,094,299 total votes. He is followed by Jellyfish trainee Kim Min Kyu who got 1,033,132 votes. Ranking at number three is Starship Entertainment’s Song Hyung Jun with 1,024, 849 votes.

Kim Yo Han thanked the National Producers for believing in him and for giving him love and attention. “I told my parents that I am chasing after my dream and I am really grateful to my mom and dad for supporting me in this difficult decision. I will try my best not to be a disappointment”, he added.

Meanwhile,Kim Min Kyu, after placing second, said “I know very well that I am still lacking, but I am working hard to show better performances to the national producers.” Third placer Song Hyung Jun also expressed gratitude towards the National Producers. He mentioned, “I am grateful for the high position. I had a lot of hardships, like getting the X-grade. I felt sorry I got to this rank and others would not make it.”

Barely escaping elimination was Around Us Entertainment trainee Jung Jae Hoon who secured the 60th spot. “I am so thankful to the National Producers for giving me the opportunity to move on the next round. Thank you so much for helping me,” he said.

Prior to the announcement of ranks, National Representative Lee Dong Wook said, “In this ranking, the fate of many trainees changed due to benefit points.” The individual ranking is the tally of the online votes and live votes from last week’s Group X Battle episode. He also divulged that the cumulative votes received from last week to determine the ranks, reached 20,374,193.

Apart from the individual ranks, trainees also revealed their pick for this season’s top visual centers. Kim Min Kyu and Kim Woo Seok were the top two candidates and the former eventually won with the most votes from his co-trainees, while Kim Yo Han came in third.

Next week’s episode will feature the Position Evaluation, where trainees will pick their positions from vocal, rap and dance. Produce X 101 airs every Friday at 11PM KST.
