“While You Were Sleeping” Is Chosen As Best Korean Wave Drama In “Seoul International Drama Awards 2018”

Fantasy-romance While You Were Sleeping claimed the Grand Prize in non-competing category of Korean wave dramas.

Held on September 3 at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Seoul, the 13th edition of Seoul International Drama Awards (SDA) celebrated remarkable television dramas enjoyed by TV critics and worldwide fans.

As a haven for globally recognized television dramas, a special Korean wave category recognized outstanding South Korean dramas, which aired in the country from 2017 – 2018.

While You Were Sleeping

SBS drama While You Were Sleeping scored the Grand Prize award through its unique fantasy-romance themed story, equipped with the rightful amount of thrill and empowering messages.

Starring Lee Jong Suk and Bae Suzy, the drama switches from comic highs, courtroom thrills and heart-fluttering moments, while treading on an exciting fantasy landscape.

Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food (jTBC) and Fight For My Way (KBS) brought home excellence Korean wave drama honors. Both dramas consistently generated high ratings during its respective runs as well as online buzz from Korean drama aficionados.

Son Ye Jin and Park Seo Joon won top acting prizes from their superb performances in the aforementioned series.

Germany’s Babylon Berlin emerged victorious as the over all Grand Prize winner besting 28 finalists with 54 Hours, Candice Renoir and The New Black, taking the top excellence honors for TV Movie, serial drama and comedy categories.

South Korea’s Mother, which aired on tvN this year, won the mini series category, with lead actress Lee Bo Young bagging the festival’s Best Actress award.

The Seoul International Drama Awards 2018 is the only international TV festival in Korea. This year, a total of 268 entries from 56 countries were exhibited, breaking the records from the previous years.

Some of the winning dramas will be available on VOD via the official channels of LGU Plus IPTV and Naver TV Seoul Drama Awards until September 10th at 12:00 pm.

The awards ceremony will be aired on recorded on SBS channel at 5:00 p.m. on September 4, with Jeon Hyun-moo and Choi Soo-young taking the MC roles.
