“Lost in Starlight” – A Lively and Smart Look at Netflix’s New Romance
Netflix has just released the main trailer for its first original Korean animated film, Lost in Starlight, offering an energetic glimpse into director Han Ji-won’s creation.
Set in Seoul in 2050, the movie tells the romantic story of Nan-young, an aspiring Mars astronaut, and Jay, a reluctant musician. The film blends retro and cyberpunk aesthetics to deliver a uniquely emotional journey of love and ambition, perfectly capturing the essence of today’s youth.
The movie’s key art beautifully depicts Nan-young and Jay’s love on Earth, foreshadowing their impending separation of 225 million kilometers. On the left, Nan-young’s robotic companion, a high-resolution detector for Mars exploration, blends seamlessly with the natural surroundings, highlighting the film’s mix of analog and cutting-edge elements.
The trailer showcases their love story unfolding through dates that transition between familiar Seoul streets and futuristic environments, promising both heartwarming moments and refreshing fun. As Nan-young excels in her Mars research, Jay, encouraged by her, rediscovers his passion for music. However, a poignant challenge arises when Nan-young gets a second chance to go to Mars, forcing the couple to confront a potential separation. How will they navigate this difficult situation?
Featuring the voice talents of Kim Tae-ri and Hong Kyung, and Han Ji-won’s visionary direction, Lost in Starlight is set to enthrall audiences with its emotional depth and a stunning original soundtrack. The film premieres exclusively on Netflix on May 30.
