A Twitter user has apologised for trending “No To K-Pop” on Twitter.

A patriotic Filipino has taken it to Twitter to start a movement against K-Pop.

With more than 21,000 followers on Twitter, Kelvin Sta Maria voiced his disliking for K-Pop and said “Yes to OPM (Original Pinoy Music).”

“No to k-pop. Yes to OPN (Original Pinoy Music). You are Filipino not Korean. Don’t be feeling [Don’t feel as if you are Korean].” He tweeted.

"No to KPOP" and "Yes to OPM" were both trending terms last night.

“No to KPOP” and “Yes to OPM” were both trending terms last night.

The tweet sent out last night, has since fuelled a debate about Korean vs. Filipino music on Twitter and the term “No to K-pop” has since then trended worldwide.

The self-proclaimed rapper and dancer received a number of criticism from K-pop fans after sharing his frustration over his fellow Filipino followers supporting K-pop and not Filipino music.

But it all started when he lashed out on EXO fans, after a number of people called him ‘ugly’.

“Before you tell me that I’m ugly, change first your avatar with your EXO fantards. Posers. hahapeace (sic).” The tweet originally said.

Kelvin Sta Maria has since apologised to EXO and K-pop fans on Facebook and Twitter and asked for people to respect his opinion.

“We are living in a country where we can express our opinions, FREELY. What’s the matter if I’m against KPOP?” He wrote on Facebook.

“If I offended you with my tweets, Sorry. Respect mine and I’ll respect yours.”
However, even after apologising, he goes on to say that he did “nothing wrong” and called people “narrow-minded.” Our dear friend is still actively voicing that he doesn’t like K-pop, and that’s cool with us.

Translated: “I will not be plastic (meaning fake). I still don’t like k-pop. I just wont bash.”

We don’t agree with people bullying other people, especially calling someone ‘ugly’ or other hurtful names. Kelvin definitely didn’t deserve to be targeted by online bullies but he certainly shouldn’t have offended EXO fans by calling them “fantards”.

The boy has learnt his lesson, so let’s move on. #YesToKpop
