BLACKPINK’s “BORN PINK” Debuts At No.1 On Billboard 200

Charismatic K-pop girl group BLACKPINK topped the Billboard 200 chart for the first time with their new album BORN PINK.

Delighted in their latest achievement, the quartet expressed their gratitude through their agency, YG Entertainment. “It is a moment of glory that our BLINK (fandom name) created. While working on BORN PINK, we wanted to show you the more evolved music of BLACKPINK as well as the team identity.”

According to a preview article published by Billboard in the United States on September 25, BLACKPINK’s seconnd regular album BORN PINK will enter first place on the Billboard 200 chart on October 1. This is the first record for a K-pop female artist and a splendid achievement in 14 years and 5 months since Danity Kane in 2008 among girl groups around the world.

Meanwhile, in related news, the quartet also took first place on the UK official album chart, surpassing the K-pop girl group’s best record (2nd place) they had set with their first full-length album THE ALBUM. Remarkably, BLACKPINK is the only Asian female artist to have swept both world charts at the same time, and it is the first case of conquering a girl group in 21 years since Destiny’s Child in 2001 based on the global music market as a whole.

Influential foreign media also reported on the K-pop girl group’s achievements. In particular, Forbes, an American economic magazine, highlighted, “BLACKPINK’s Billboard 200’s first place has a special meaning. It has written a new history.” This is a part that confirms that BLACKPINK has left a distinct mark in the music history of the world beyond K-Pop.
