Days after announcing his official departure from JYP Entertainment, Jae has been trending on social media but for the wrong reasons. On January 9, the singer-songwriter issued an apology in English on his official Twitter account. The said post tagged Jamie’s Twitter and is an apology for his harsh statements made while doing a live stream.

“I wanted to make an apology to Jamie and everyone about what I said. It was most definitely a comment made in poor taste, and I feel terrible for making Jamie feel the way she does. What I thought was friendly banter I now realize wasn’t. In no way was I referencing any kind of physical behavior or energy (trying to take a slight at Jamie) but rather the aura of what people refer to as a “baddie” and thought the two were synonymous, however I do understand that this is in no way an excuse for my comment. My sincerest apologies to Jamie as well as to everyone who was hurt by it.”

The apology addressed his inappropriate remarks against Jamie during a live stream from which he pointed out that he can now finally say because he “got out of Kpop.”

The video recording that circulated on the internet sees Jae asking, “Why is Jamie trying to be a thot?” This term refers to a woman who has had a lot of sexual encounters or relationships. Jae clarified in his apology that he thought the word was synonymous with the term “baddie,” however, fans are enraged that he had the face to say such things to an old friend.

To note, Jae and Jamie had been friends since joining Kpop Star Season 1 in 2011, from which the latter won first place. The two have been working closely as co-hosts in After School Club and DIVE Studios’ Hwaiting alongside Eric Nam, KARD’s BM, Amber, LADIES’ CODE’s Ashley, and BTOB’s Peniel.

Meanwhile, Jamie had responded to her former labelmate’s disappointing attitude through her Twitter account. The 24-year-old singer expressed her shock and anger through several tweets.

Jae signed with JYP Entertainment after placing sixth in the first season of Kpop Star in 2011. In 2015, he debuted with DAY6 as a vocalist and electric guitarist.

On December 31, 2021, Jae announced on his personal Twitter account that he would be taking a break from his promotions with DAY6. On the same day, JYP Entertainment confirmed that Jae’s exclusive contract with the agency had expired and would be departing the band for personal reasons.
