PREMIERE WEEK AFTERTHOUGHTS

Initially, the fantasy drama aspect turned me off since I’m not really a fan. However the premiere episodes did the trick to reel me in. Leaning towards the warmth shown between families, The Light in Your Eyes highlights love especially between parents and their children.

Both Hye Ja and Joon Ha seem to find their lives hopeless. Both are stuck chasing their dreams. They are both caught in the frustration of their circumstances. Discouraged, they start to seek solace in each other.

Nam Joo Hyuk as a Transformed Actor

As an actor, Nam Joo Hyuk has certainly evolved. Perhaps given a giant boost of confidence by the numerous acting awards he received for The Great Battle last year, Nam has matured in terms of his acting. No longer employing his boyish charms, he has developed into a more serious actor in this drama. His scenes in episode 2 with his father and grandmother were very emotional. Nam flawlessly pulled off the anguish and devastation of his character.

Han Ji Min is a Good Fit as Kim Hye Ja

The age gap between her and Nam Joo Hyuk were doubtful at first, but they are well suited because of Han’s cheerful and youthful demeanor. It was already explained early on in the show and Han Ji Min is a good choice as Kim Hye Ja. I believe Han can pull off any age because of her beautiful and fresh-faced appearance.

I am curious to see how the story will turn out. Moreover, I can’t wait to see Nam Joo Hyuk as Joon Ha interact with the elder Kim Hye Ja. Even though I was skeptical about the time travel aspect at first, the story works well enough for me to feel excited for next week’s episodes.

The Light in Your Eyes airs on JTBC every Monday and Tuesday.
