SM to edit Red Velvet’s debut MV after controversial scenes
SM Entertainment has announced that it will edit out the controversial scenes from Red Velvet’s debut music video for ‘Happiness’.
The new group debuted with a rocky start yesterday when their music video attracted headlines in Japan.
A reference from the music video about the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II was seen as disrespectful and offensive.
SM said the director of the MV had no intention to offend fans.
“After questioning the director, we found that he simply used a collage source for the images, and there was no intention behind it,”
The agency said it would make sure the incident would not repeat in the future agian.
“As SM wasn’t able to catch it before, we will remove the material that caused the misunderstanding as soon as possible. We will make sure not to let this kind of thing happen in the future.”
